Marketplace is a dangerous thing
Few weeks ago sitting on the couch at 7pm on a Sunday when i get linked this green wagon for $1000. I turn to my partner and say "hey look this green gen 2 wagon still has all its clear coat, thats rare". Expecting "thats nice" in reply but there must of been a cosmic bit flip cos her reply was "we could buy that and it could be my project car"
A few messages to the seller and a 50 minute drive later we're picking up the car and driving it home on 2 cylinders during a lightening storm. Awesome
Cliff notes
- Panels are straight, ish. Nothing i dont think PDR cant solve. None of the dents have cracked the paint
- None of the clear coat or paint has faded but it is COVERED in scratches. Previous owner lived in the city and it shows
- Only has 170k kms. All the doors close awesome, the trims and seats are minty outside of the wear and tear youd expect
- Runs like dog shit. I suspect its hasnt been driven more than 10-15 mins in 5 years. Was running on 2 going up hills. After running for 30+ mins it started to clear up and run good, or as good as an auto 25D can
- Its auto
- Its a 97, so black trims and manual AC
Plans
- Manual conversion with my gen 4 6 speed as my STI box finally arrived
- Digital climate conversion
- Drive line restoration
- Turbo conversion after its registered
- Custom hazelnut leather seats and door trims with green carpet and the woodgrain trims (its the missos car and ngl i agree it sounds sick in the green)
Thankfully I saved the OG manual 25D loom from my gen 2 rebuild, stitched myself up by binning the set of digital climate boxes i had stored and basically forgot that the 97 RX was pov spec. Also forgot that 98 ABS is different to pre 98 so need an engine bay loom and a new pump and lines. So 3 weekends at the wreckers in a row gathering bits and pieces we have acquired
- Digital climate HVAC boxes
- Digital climate and manual dash loom (needs repairs as someone cut out the climate control box wiring)
- Manual 98 spec engine bay loom
- Manual 98 spec engine wiring loom
- Manual ABS computer
- Black leather door cards, the cards themselves were in better condition and a black oem leather interior will probably happen before it gets retrimmed so it will match eventually
Still need to source
- Manual pedal set (this can come from other models like a GC or gen 3 as well)
- A engine bay brake lines from a 98 gen 2 or any gen 3. Will likely get auto pipes as i cbf dealing with the hill holder
- Will probably grab a complete manual pump to keep the oem magic in as the computer is attached to the pump
- Manual shifter surround
All easy enough to source. We're getting married in August this year so nothing going to happen quickly.
