I need some urgent help guys, the plastic header at the top of my radiator is cracked and i need a new radiator, i cant see the part number on it and am having major problems finding a supplier that can get me a new rad. My car is a gen 3 JDM B4 RSK. Does anybody know the rad dims and what other Subaru model rads might fit because all i can find over here are parts for Imprezas, will an aftermarket Impreza rad fit. My regular parts supplier thinks the rad from a GC8 Impreza might fit. Any help would be great as my car is off the road and in my mechanics workshop until i find a rad. Thanks

i think the B4 radiator is larger than impreza mate, not 100% sure but all the radiators we had come in when i was working at the subaru wrecker were noticably smaller on impreza's

They should all fit mate. Perhaps a good excuse to upgrade to an alloy radiator? If you went that path look in to one suited for a WRX and you will be fine - if you want something to get you up and running again as quickly as possible a WRX / turbo / gen2 Legacy one would suit. Try to source one from wreckers or used parts even if you like, most of them will be fine. I am not too sure if there are any differences with plumbing on the TT / single turbo radiators, I don't think there is but one of the TT boys will be able to confirm. Dylan

Get a GDB alloy one off ebay (AU$200). It will fit. You MAY/MAY NOT need to do some modifications to your fan mounts but the rest will fit well. And they are bloody thick.

Thanks for the help guys, after many hours on the phone yesterday i found a place that told me the GDB rad will fit and they have them new ones in stock and i am going out to collect one this morning. 330 quid. Still better than the 480 and a weeks wait from Subaru main dealer for direct replacement Legacy one. Anyone know how much this will improve the cooling.

Improve?

You want it to run normal operating temps.

You don't want it to run too cool, else you'll loose economy/performance.

Not sure but you could compare it to the original one. Apart from overall surface area, the other thing that increase the cooling are the number of tubes between the tanks and the number of fins (per centimeter) that are between the tubes. I would flush the coolant and replace the thermostat while your at it. Better than risking mixing coolants or having to replace a thermostat in the near future. Out of curiosity, how hot does it get there?

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

I picked up the new rad, its a Mishimoto all alloy , hopefully it will be fitted today. The shop has its own dyno for tuning to so will be taking a trip down there again in the next week or 2 to have the car tested. They also do remapping and tuning, a Japanese guy owns the place and he recomended a full Ecutek tune for the B4, said it worked great on the one he had, plus the price he quoted was a lot better than anywhere else i checked. Have any of you guys done an Ecutek, if so how did it work out for you.. And thanks again for the help with the rad..

Sorry Alex improve was a poor choice of words, i meant make the cooling system more efficient.

Hey mate, I know this was some time ago now. But the same thing happened to my radiator. With the alloy radiator being a GDB one, did it have a pressure cap on the radiator?
