In the next month or 2 i'm gonna replace the diff back section on the B4. I want something that is gonna sound nice but still be legal. So what have you got? Is 3 inch the way to go or is 2.5 inch enough? What sort of muffler works and what wont? Also are there any good bolt ons out there as I cant find any except MRT and there is no way i'm giving that middleton c%@t any of my money ever again. Or do I have to get one made? All comments welcome, constructive or otherwise. Cheers, Trent

Go 2.5" diffback in mandrel. Its been proven that a 3" from turbo going to 2.5" at the diff gives increased midrange with no loss of top end. So you can add the 3" bit later. :D A number of people I know (myself included) run the Xforce MPO2 muffler. Can be had at a good price and gives a nice note.

Yeah i've heard that. I'll look in to that. Not too loud is it? And how much should that setup cost me?

That could all vary depending on the shop that does it and the mufflers you use. I just finished making an exhaust for my self and used an off the shelf Red back muffler with a 3" in and out. Its got a note to it but nothing i'd call over the top.

What should I do about the flapper valve cable? Pull it out? Leave it hanging? Tie it to something?

Have a look on importmonster.com. I got my Trust Silent Revolution muffler delivered for less then $400. If I was to do it again I'd get the Fujitsubo Legalis R. Best sounding boxer muffler IMO.

Tech. it's illegal, as your supposed to replace all the emmissions shit, but no, it won't throw any code (well mine didn't when I got it taken out).

Had the local exhaust place do a 2.5in TBE the other day. Mild steel from the the turbos back, with a stainless muffler and tip. Noise-wise I told them I wanted it legal and they complied, it comes in at 86dB. But I must be getting old because I reckon it's still to loud, plus drones a bit. So I went back and explained this and they are going to throw another resonator in (at no charge) and see how that comes up.

However they only put a cheap Lukey muffler on. I reckon this is contributing a fair bit to the noise as it's pretty short. An Xforce MP02 is a good 3-4 inches longer I reckon. So if the second resonator doesn't work i'm going to get one of those and throw in. I didn't go with one originally as i'm a tight arse, and lazy(I would have had to source it myself). So this is what I get I suppose <_<

Apart from all that they did a pretty decent job on the rest of the exhaust. Decent welds, all mandrel bent, and looks pretty good.

Anyways just sharing the experience. :drinks:

Cheers

In all honesty..

Go to Liverpool exhaust and speak to one of the Onwers (can't remember his name, but it's a car name he calls himself, like Chev or something silly like that)

Go 2.5 inch off the primary, 3.0 inch off the secondary, then 3.0 inch from the cat back.. use a Resonator and a muffler from them.

I had this setup and it wasn't loud at all, but the power was awesome.

I opted for Mild steel cause I prefer the sound over stainless.. stainless gets way too tinny.

Won't set you back more than $1300 all up..

EDIT - IGNORE THIS POST LOL, I JUST READ YOUR OTHER THREAD AND YOU ALREADY HAVE A TBE.

I own an Xforce exhaust system. Their mufflers are crap. They're thrashy and just give really poor sound quality.
They're loud, for louds sake. There's no quality in it.
Expensive shit basically. There is no reason for them to cost what they do. Considering some of the stuff you can get from Japan and the states, they're shite.

Example then of well priced, quiet, quality muffler?
