Hi, I'm looking for a bit of inside local knowledge here. Can't replicate local knowledge. Me and the missus are headed to Sydney for the 2010'Bar Show. http://barshow.com.au/2010/ - It's the first time I'm actually going to be able to attend the event, and as such, I am quite excited about it. Some of you guys might actually be interested in some of the events, it's pretty damn cheap for the experience that's promised. Check the website anyway. To add to the excitement, it will be the first time we've been to Sydney together, and the first time I've set foot in the mardi gras state since a single digit age. The event is at Moore Park, which is quite close to the SCG. I'm thinking staying in Darling Harbour would be a close enough, but still cool enough location? Yes? We are big on shopping and food, and I'm a big time graff head. So any suggestions you might have of where/what to do, please let us know! Obviously, I will be keen to catch up with a few crew, especially those of you who won't be able to make the big journey west for MDSC. I know this thread comes early, but I am speaking with AMI about that issue. Cheers, Nik

Nothing like local info. :)

Try HERE. This is where we stayed when we were in Sydney earlier this year. Very central to everything and if you can get your hands on one of those stupid gold entertainment books, it works out not too expensive.

Media Grand Harbourside.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Hi, That's a winner. I think that joint was short listed by the leader of the opposition anyway. Thanks for the tip. Was the female staff attractive? Or were there male concierge etc? Cheers, Nik

Without a word of a lie - one of the girls at the front desk (I think she might have been a manager though) had literally the biggest boobs I have ever seen. Honest to god. She wasn't even that chubby but my god they were ginormous.

Or were there male concierge etc?

Um...see above line. Did not notice.

Hi, Nice to know. I always get worried about going to the gay capital of Australia. For some reason I expect everyone to be lathered in coconut oil and wearing a sequence mankini. ***This post does NOT require you to google image search for a 'relevant' picture. I'm looking at you Walter. Cheers, Nik

Hey Nik, Good to hear you are coming over this way. Don't be too worried about men who like other men... I doubt doing your day to day stuff you are likely to see all that many (I doubt any more then any other city). Some may be gay but you most likely wont even know it, they will just burn around doing their normal bizzo without attempting to corn-hole you. Of course if you hang around oxford street darlinghurst you might see some dudes in mini skirts at night LOL. Check out the Bavarian beir cafe for a Stein :D

5 minutes walk up the hill from the hotel I suggested.

Mr B4TT was scared of stein's. I've never seen a man drink such a small beer.

Although Dylan was drinking shandy, easy on the beer.

If your into shopping, I highly suggest you pencil in a trip to Bondi Junction Westfields. Its a pretty big mall with heaps of shops to check out. Darling Harbour is a good location because its reasonably central to the CBD. But honestly, the CBD isn't anything special - I recommend hiring a car and going on a day trip up north to the Hunter Valley. There are some properly beautiful places up that way and will be a nice change in pace from Sydney. Likewise, the South Coast.

Hi, We aren't candidates for hiring a car mate, I have no licence, and the missus is too young (20). Cheers, Nik

hahaha mad my Birthday is that weekend. lets go to the stonewall :P Anywhere in the CBD is great but Darling Harbour is handy as it's very central + has the benefit of lots of shops, bars and restaurants at your door step. 5 minute walk to King St Wharf for some more up class bars and restaurants, 5 minute walk to George St where you can hit the shops etc Pitt St Mall, QVB, Galleries Victoria, World Square etc. 5 Minutes to China Town for plenty more food and shopping at Dixon St Mall, Paddy’s Market and Market City. 10 Minutes to Star City Casino. 10 minutes to Broadway Shopping Centre, 15 minutes from the Rocks for Shopping, Bars pubs, and Circular Quay and the Opera House. 10 minute cab ride to the Golden Mile. 10 minute cab ride to Newtown for more alternative shopping, restaurants, bars and pubs. What kinda shopping do you like doing? I know some killer sneaker stores and other cool shops that are a bit off the beaten track etc Probably about a 15 minute cab ride to Moore Park from Darling Harbour. A couple of ok restaurants and pubs up there at Fox Studios too so you can make a day and night out of it. As I know your into getting up, Newtown will be of much interest to you. It was the original hub for graffiti in inner sydney as all the train lines meet here before they start the city circle. The inner west of Sydney is really the graffiti hot bed starting at Newtown then heading along the south or west lines. Also the south end of the central station is the writers bench and used to be the best place to chill and wait for panels to roll past. If you walk down any lane or side street on Newtown you’ll see plenty of stuff from OSF, BCF, DBT, KO, KOC, OSA, RBS, REK, SH crews etc. All the big names from all the big crews are there + plenty of internationals such as how, nosm, loomit, daim, seak, neckface etc who have all spent time in Sydney. Also on King St (main st) is 567, the most well know graffiti shop in Sydney. If you also check out some of the back streets around central and the bottom of Darlinghurst and Oxford St there’s a heap more graffiti around there. Hit me up and I’m more than happy to show you around or point you in the right direction :)

ps: Also Glebe is good for a feed and to see some more graff. Glebe Point Road is a 10 minute cab ride and has lots of places to eat fairly cheaply. The fish market is also near by at Pyrmont and only a 15 minute walk from Darling Harbour Moore Park is on the edge of Centennial Park and encompasses the SCG, SFS and Fox Studios which is know called the Entertainment Quarter. Lots of gigs get held out there at the Forum or the Horden Pavilion

Hi, We will definitely need to be having a meet up. I have been told about the fantastic Teppanyaki joints around the harbour, this is usually an awesome way to feed a group of people with constant entertainment. Any other ideas I'm keen for too, I'm not shy of the odd beer no matter who bloody pours it. Great suggestions Aek, all of which have been banked. I might have to hit you up on some guidance once I get there RE the good painting spots. Cheers, Nik
