Hey guys n girls, Ive just purchased a kit and wonder if anyone that has installed themselves come across any problems that I may come across during installation? It seems like a pretty straight forward install apart from dropping the x-member... Or should I save myself the hassel n just get them installed at Wholesale suspension for $150 with wheel alignment included? I need to get the wheel alignment done anyways...

Yep I have an ALK on my car. Yes you will need an alignment. Make sure you dial as much castor as you can before tightening. Its an easy job.

They are pretty easy, but i'd pay the $150 to get it installed including the alignment. The rear nut (the one on the control arm) is a PITA if you don't have a hoist - there's not enough room to get the leverage to crack it off on stands.

Dropping the X member? I did mine myself. its pretty straight forward, but if you dont have the tools/time then Id say $150 inc alignment saves you some possible headaches.

I have one. agreed. installing a anti-lift kit without the right tools and the car raised is a complete pita. I gave up and took it to a tyre place.

gearbox crossmember was sort of in the way on my car, you can work around it (i did). it gets in the way with removing the bolts through the chassis. but if you had the car on a hoist to do it would be a piece of piss!

If i cant get some place to install them ill take it down to my uncles old workshop, the new owneers owe me a few favours lol I can chuck it on the hoist n do my oil change service while I can get him to chuck on the ALK... :sarcastic: Btw should i change my oil to 5W-30 since im goin to the snow next week? Im currently using Nulon 10W-30 Hi-Tech Fast Flowing Engine Oil. Lately its been a bit noisy/tappy on start up since these colder mornings.

you don't need to change oil. i'm running a 10w60 and its no different. just make sure you let the car warm up properly... doesn't mean you let the car idle for 5+min either..

I found 10W did make a difference on cold starts. I've just gone from a 10W40 to a 5W30 and the difference on cold start is clearly evident. 5W will flow faster when cold so therefore will provide better (faster) protection.

Ok installed kit in this morning and got wheel alignment done from a guy around the corner from the workshop. Didnt get it done at wholesale suspension as they were all booked out.

We werent sure how much caster to dial in so we just went with a bit higher than stock.
(stock = 3.08 -/+0.75)

Here are the specs of before and after.

Apparently the caster on left is suppose to be higher than the right to stop it from pulling left but when I was driving home it was pulling at all...

Anyone that has an ALK in there cars what do you have dialled in?

Already know that part but Im trying to figure out wats the optimal setting...

I think when I get back from the snow, i'll go to Wholesale suspension and get them to adjust it to max caster

There is no castor adjustment on the ALK, you need the castor kit KCA375.

it is a fixed castor adjustment, the only adjustment so to speak you have is the positioning of the ALK as far forwards as possible.

Thats it, you can only go as far as the elongated holes allow you too.

I did it by "carefully" using the car jack to push on my brake caliper towards the front of the car, with the base seated on the lower part of the wheel arch, its only a small movement so dont go so far that your bending the arch.
When the ALK cant move anymore tighten the two bolts up and thatll be the Max castor available for the kit.

Edit: This is the thread i got the info from
