Now, i need someone to do some stalking for me.

Can some one find what colour the following cables are under the steering column:

Ignition 12v
Constant 12v
When small lamp is on 12v (so it lights up when lights are on)
Ground

As i'm buying the Defi boost gauge Skywarp has for sale and i can't find it in the workshop manual.

Yeah i know those, but i want to tap into the ones under or on the steering column, as i've already got two CD players running off the same power cable and i don't want to run another from them.

Its the cone-of-silence scene from the new get smart movie. When it doesnt work. And Steve Carrell makes it funny.

Why under the steering column?
These wires to the ignition switch are fairly high current. If your gauge shorts to ground it may not blow the fuse.
Also the air bag wiring is under there.
Would be funny if every time the boost went up, the air bag deployed!

Pull your supply from the rear of the fuse box.
This way you can run the gauge from non essential circuits such as rear window demister, interior lamp or rearward facing hidden spy camera.
Use a test light to probe the wires to find ignition and constant supply wires and tap into them on the fused side. (When you pull the fuse the line goes dead)

FYI. Most jap cars have w/b (white with black trace) as the earth.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

No, no, not really.

Cheers for the info Jason!

I'll look for the wiring diagram of the fuse box :D

Test light?

I've got a couple of screw drivers that look like this:

But without the black cable.

Then do i start sticking it in things to see if it lights up?

What Jase said, I had to use one under the column (red) pretty sure it was the dimmer function. Tho I am auto-electrically retarded so you may be able to find it at the fuse box.... from memory I got sick of looking so went for the column cos it was easy.

What cable did you go for to get it to light up when you put the lights on?

I'm pretty sure i can easily find the other cables now.

You want it too light up when the ignition is turned on, then dim when the HL's are turned on

It says in the manual:

"To 12V wire when small lamp on"

Should i connected it to the parking lights?

I'm pretty sure it would dim when it senses they are on?

Tom you can probe the tops of the fuses with your 'electric screwdiver' to work out what circuits you need then wire to them from the rear. Tell me what wires you have coming from the gauge (function and colour)

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
