modifying b4's

Mine was not re tuned however, i don't even know if it caused the issue or it was just a coincedance.
While the FMIC made it a much more driveable car in summer. For me the mods made me more worried that it would go bang late at night, such a complicated engine to play around with in my opinion, if you converted to single turbo it would be a different story.

I didn't have any problems with pinging before the tune, however it is still a safe option to do.
I should just convert to single, right?As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;
"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

Im not Tony,
But he said a similar thing about my B4, but mostly everything ive heard are old wives tales.
I had my TBE done, and absolutely love it, despite the "burnt out primary turbo" routine.
Currently i have:
'03 STI Motor (Forged etc etc)
Twins
Hyperflow CAI
Twin 2.5 into 3 TBE
GFB Hybrid
Will do fuel pump at some stage, but cbf at the moment....
Also, *thread hijack*
Where do i get good Samco hoses for my B4?
and
Where/Can i get a different TMIC air splitter for the HyperFlow TMIC (for when i upgrade ;P )

x 2, was the first thing he said to me. That said i reckon he just hates working on B4's.

It drove like a V8 with zero lag and heaps of grunt.
Hyperflow TMIC
Extractors
MRT TBE
enlarged wastegate and ECV
Silicon turbo pipes to TMIC
Fuel pump
If i could do it all again i would of retro fitted a bugeye tmic instead of the TT one as the difference is
farken huge and I've seen it done so it can work .There's no doubt the big end bearing is the B4 achilles heel
though.
On top of all my other problems since going single the car is now in the shop getting a new turbo FFS.

How did you find the MRT exhaust?Since i went single after a big end bearing I miss my modded TT.

I reckon they are a great peice of kit and just what i was after in terms of
noise and quality. But just like the jap brands they don't come cheap either.

IMHO a stock B4 is a pretty lame drive.
I agree!
All performance cars can be a bit sensitive, particularly turbo cars. My Legacy is my second twin turbo car! There is no performance car you can modify without the threat of issues. Just be conservative with your mods!

johnb4-
The simple fact is with b4's, the sooner you do a retune the better. RX25E is correct with what he's saying, but if you dont go stupid with the amounts of power (180 ish kw seems to be a safe mark for most B4's- so far) then a retune will eliminate pinging and your bearings will be happier for it.
+1
Definately need a retune for the B4, esp during summer. You may be one of the lucky ones who own a B4 which experiences minimal pinging; but more than likely you have some degree of pinging. Ive got TBE, walbro pump, CAI, FMIC and retune specifically to minimise the pinging/heatsoak issue.

I modded the b4 engine, not an sti one from a Rex or a rebuilt single turbo conversion.
- turbo back exhaust 2.5 inch dumps, 3 inch cat back
- tuned ecu (home brew) running 22psi on a cold day
- hyperflow CAI
- exedy HD clutch
- GFB hybrid Bov.
The car screamed, and loved every bit of it.. As much as a v8 lover I am, I was yet to find one that could give me a decent go, I used to bus almost everything.
Key points, oil change and filter was done every 5k REGARDLESS, constantly keeping an eye on my air fuel ratio with the gauge installed, as with oil pressure.
