Hey guys,

Just after some advice, finally finished the Turbo conversion (just need a longer tail-shaft).

Anyway when I started the car, It makes a really loud pop like a gunshot every few seconds..

It won,t stall and seems to rev fine.. just when it returns to idle it goes.. BANG... BANG....BANG...

Im 90% sure i have 98RON fuel, and im just using the RX fuel pump atm...

Any ideas?

The front cut was under a tarp, through abit of bad weather - so im thinking maybe plugs & leads may have got moisture on them?

Yeah I would certainly start with the easiest things first. That being the plugs and leads.
Try giving them a squirt with either compressed air or some contact cleaner.

The bang's will obviously be unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust.

Hey mate,

Sounds (from the vid) like the ignition leads are connected up in the wrong order. It's running rough as guts, hard to start and missfiring... Check the order in which the leads are connected, maybe even just swap them around (same side, just swap front lead to back) and give it a try. One side at a time. One of the combinations should result in a smooth start, idle and no missfiring.

Good luck!

Hey Dylan,

Don't think thats it, as I haven't touched the ignition leads since i bought it.

The engine was running fine at Ichiban - we just pulled it out and dropped it into the liberty.

I do think it may be Ignition leads or plugs though.

Thanks man.

Ah well , let me know :)

I know when I was putting my motor back in the other week I mucked around with the ignition leads and experienced exactly the same thing !

i dunno, doesn't sound like the order is wrong otherwise it would be alot more uniform in the missfiring.

but maybe the wrong leads are being used ? length wise.. like i know on mine each cable is a different length, that could cause a problem.

you guys are champs! + Scott is a legend!

Engine is running fine!

Turned out to be an Airleak between the turbo and intercooler line causing the car to not even start, bad plugs & crossed leads(doh!)...

I know this has been solved now, but yep.. Crossed leads and bad plugs will cause that..

I know from experience.. see how it sounds like from a carby V8 when it's popping through a cat-less 3.5 inch exhaust and also popping back through a jetted 600cfm Rochester carby while your head is in the engine bay..

I think I changes my underwear 3 times in 15 minutes.
