Anybody use an ebay spec front mount? If I use one is it likely to collapse or explode or something at the first sign of boost?
Im not a stooge and would rather spend the $1387.10 for a brand name but right now $300 for generic is within budget. Should I just save for the PWR unit or get the ebay special and upgrade later next year?

its not whether it will explode or collapse its all about pressure drop. good quality coolers have very low pressure drop across them and should be no more than 1-2 psi.

it has been known that some cheaper ebay coolers have 5psi drop! so bottom line is your turbo might be boosting @ 20psi and your motor will only see 15psi.....

Interesting!

Never heard of that, might test mine before I put it on just so I know what levels to wind the boost up to !

Google "Tube and fin" and "bar and plate" type intercoolers, different constructions both have different characteristics. this goes for top mounts also.

Dunno about ebay but I've got a pre-fab FMIC piping kit from Scarles; a manufacturer in NZ for about $450AUD from memory and sourced my own smaller cooler from PWR. They did have a FMIC and cooler combo but the 600x300 was too large for my liking as it required too much cutting of the crashbar. Not the best but it does the job atm.

Thanks for the comments guys. Might see if I can't retain the top mount first. If not I will prob just grab a cheapie to tie me over till next year.

With a statement like this, I'd expect some form of backup information...

What lead you to this conclusion Josh?

2) Most importantly is that the square edged tanks hurt air flow & increase "static" pressure drop. The intake charge does not want to make a sharp turn with the majority of the air taking a radiused path out off the edge, causing some of the air to eddy back around through an elongated 360 degree tumble. This causes friction with both the wall surface & the following air, really hurting flow figures.
