Hi guys, my '02 Outback is blowing hot air from the foot-well vents when the air-con is turned off. The faster I go, the more air comes. The air is hotter than ambient...probs 28C approximate.

Any ideas as to what the issue could be?

Does it have auto climate control? If not check the temp control cable coming from the back of the switch. It may have popped out of one of it's brackets and isn't holding the water valve closed properly.

If you have your Aircon set to 28, then turn it off, it will still blow 28 degree air out the vents at whatever speed you are going, so set it to 22 then turn it off.

While it's off you can also press the "inside only air" button, and then you won't get any air coming through at all.

Its auto c/c acres.

Walts - I wouldn't have had the air-con set to 28 for at least a couple of weeks as its been really humid here even with the rain. And besides, this shouldn't happen should it? My Gen2 never did it. I'll try what you said though ~ thanks.

I had the same aircon as you in the Gen 2, and now still have the same aircon as you haha.

The Gen 3 A/C is a weird system, very different from the Gen 2. No matter where you have the vents set, it always seems to come out of the face vents as well.

Try checking the c/c codes. It may have an electrical fault

I've been using the air-con 99% of the time over the past couple of humid weeks. It was just the other night it was a cool 22C at 10PM, so I opened the sunroofs and windows and turned the A/C off and noticed this hot air in the foot well. Initially I thought it was a recurring muscle problem in my foot where it heats up, but I could distinctly feel it blowing against my foot.

I'll have the mechanic look at it when I send it there to have the tensioner looked at. Thanks for the advise guys, just wanted some preliminary ideas.

Stupid Gen3's :P

All my Subaru's have done this. I made a thread about it.

Cheers,

Just checked mine.

No air bleeding from the face vents at all.
Will blow some hot air if the car has been sitting in the sun, other than that it seems fine.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

fork.

Must be just mine.

If I have it set of defog, it goes on defog and face.

If I have it set of feet, it goes on feet and face.

If I have it set on feet and face, it goes on feet and face but slightly more on face.

etc.

How the feck do I fix that? Not that it's a major issue.

Hahaha

Sounds like maybe the solenoid on your air diverter flaps is not engaging properly?
but to fix it is too much work so just put up with it lol

until it breaks and makes a horrible sound like mine is... then you can swap back to a gen2 and enjoy the good life :P

Your face is the fault of a ventilation system.
