Rough Idle = AFM?

The new GT seems to have a little skip in it's idle, it's on and off.. but at the same time it's using a little more fuel than it should also..
I spoke to my mechanic and he reckons it has to be the AFM 100%, I thought it may be an injector, but he clarified that the injector would cause the problem sporadically even as I was driving (has a point there), and further thoughts went towards AFM cause he reckons once a soooooooooobi is picking up off readings from the AFM it will over-fuel to be safe.
What are your thoughts?
(Part number is the same as the B4- 22680AA310) I'm thinking the car being in the dusty / gravel / sandy / no tar roads of Bega and the fact that it was only serviced by the shods at a subaru dealership would have to have buckled it.

You can by AFM cleaning spray (aerosol can) from Bursons/Repco etc.
As far as false readings causing a rich failsafe......Mmmmm. Never heard of that one.

As for the fuel usage, thats probably an issue related to your right foot.

Go with the o2 sensor.
Bursons is your friend here. Bosch unit FTW.
Need a hand with it?

Common problem with the early Gen4's.
Must run closed loop idle.

Can the o2 sensor be cleaned with correct cleaner?
No.
When I fitted mine and the ecu adjusted to it, my fuel economy did get better.

But!
CRC MAF Cleaner - FTMFW!! drenched the mofo repeatedly and let it dry each time.. It now idles like a brand new Bentley. If it plays up again then atleast I know what the issue is and I'll replace the air flow meter.
Alex- thanks matey, love your generosity bruva, I spotted the o2 sensor, need asianese hands for it me thinks, I'll get good old IS Motoracing to get his hands dirty!, he diagnosed the problem as always with just a phone call
Found a place in the states that sells OEM parts and they have it for 175us delivered.

You should pay no more than $100ish from a bursons, plug and all.
Is the o2 sensor a three wire one? four wire?
ive changed more o2 sensors than you've had sunday dinners.
not hard to do.
Marty & Moog have succinctly described it.
