how safe are wheel spacer on stock wheels and studs? ether the bolt on type or sandwich type. im considering a set so i can put my stock wheels back on with my wrx 4 pots, all it would need is a 5mm spacer. what do you guys think?

thanks

i can't advise AGAINST spacers enough.

I used some once and they resulted in 16 of 20 studs either being threaded or bent. when i took the wheels off some the nuts were basically just sitting in place with no thread what so ever holding them on. Those were after market nuts as well with the tapered ends that go on further that the factory nuts on aftermarket wheels. this happened with 5mm spacers

I know of plenty of people who have used them and reckon they had no problems but after my personal experience I’d never recommend them to anyone let alone use them again

If you were to get some get some like these and not universal ones...

Im using these atm and having no problems as there is no movement with the spacers due to the holes fitting properly and being Hubcentric...

Aeks were universal ones so they would have movement

They are illegal in QLD. I'd advise against them too.

Please don't. They void insurance and are incredibly dangerous!
If you were just going to use them to clear the 4 pots, buy some wrx wheels! A decent set of wrx 17's can be had for $500-$600 these days.

I've got 5mm Hubcentric spacers (these one's) to clear Brembo's - great quality and cheapish, only downside is they have to come from Canada which can take a while.
Had them on for 6 months or so, and never had a problem.

if you are going to use spacers use the correct ones and you wont have any problems

if you use something like this style you wont have any problems

If you want less than 25mm, and unless you spend roughly double that (H&R's, Kics etc) you don't get shorter studs for where the original ones where - so you need to grind/cut them down.
25mm fit over the standard studs.

I agree.

Even though people have used them without issue, the fact remains that they are illegal to use unless fitted/optioned by the factory.

The only cars that I can think of that came with factory fitted spacers are some Porsches and XU-1 Toranas.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
