Ok so i thought i would throw this out there...
We are becoming a fairly decent sized club now and allot of us have Unique tools that we have had to buy for one thing or another which usually cost a bloody fortune and get used once in a blue moon.
E.G. Engine Hoist, Guard Roller, Subaru Special Tools, something you have made up for a special Purpose or maybe you just require an extra Jack or Set of Stands for a project

So the idea is..

Post up the tools you have that you don't mind Hiring/Lending out to other members.
This is only for SubyClub Members, no Mates of Mates, and no I just joined cause i need to borrow Ty's Breaker bar or similar.

Rules would be:

Must be a member for AT LEAST 4 weeks prior to request
Must have attended a SubyClub event prior to request
Member must have a Introduction thread and have made 15 posts or more before request.
All tools must be photographed and/or marked with owners name or distinguishing marks.
Postage and INSURANCE is the responsibility of the borrower.
Insurance MUST be purchased BOTH ways when tool needs to be shipped. (Otherwise the borrower is liable to buy a new tool EXACTLY the same)
No Sub-Loaning what so ever! if a mate comes over to your place and you have it sure... but no letting a 3rd Party borrow from you.
RESPECT others property! It is not yours, so look after it!
Tools are to be returned in the same condition or better than when you received them. (I don't like my tools being put away dirty, and i bet I'm not alone)

What are the thoughts on this idea?

I mean, how often do you need a tool that someone else has but can't justify purchasing it for a once off
or you want to buy a tool, and you can afford the cheaper alternative but know its not as good.. how good would it be to post up a EOI here, and know that 10 other people want to borrow it for $20 or something...
That kind of justifies the price of buying the better tool, and we all as a club benefit. cause i bet it's cheaper than hiring from Kennards etc

Good idea! Things like engine cranes and stands will only work locally but still for that once of.

This is awesome on paper, like communism, but I don't trust it, we have state organisers right, maybe guys can just be more like 'Hey my name's Ty I live in this suburb, have these tools, come over and we can roll your guards one day etc..' saves shipping the tools interstate. We have a sizeable amount of guys from every major city (Bris, Melb, Syd and Perth), so it won't be hard to start a fraternity in each.

Also I don't think there's enough spruiking of endorsed workshops etc, I know SubiEvolution up here used to do discounts for Subyclub members on all work, maybe start hounding subaru specialists for Subyclub discounts etc, so that we're not forced to do backyard jobs all the time, if we know there's a place we can take or cars and be treated nice and given a bit of $$$ back, all it takes is to advertise a bit to new members eg 'My name is John I'm from Brisbane blah blah' - 'Hi John, [Subi Evolution banner] check this mob out for servicing, mention Subyclub for 5% discount'

Just Saying.

It was just a draft idea.. i was hoping for the Redmen to jump on board and throw some more formalization into it but yeah i do agree that 15 posts and 4 weeks is a bit light.
The approved members thing probably sounds like a better idea.. maybe a once off fee kinda thing.. like buy a Lifetime membership for $20, get a sticker and access to VIP side of the club. such as Tools/equipment and the money can also go towards a huge national meet.. this would limit only legit members who contribute to the running of the site from getting these perks

All ideas.. but i know myself i wouldn't mind sending some smaller stuff to people i trust on here.. i mean just like one of the guys borrowed a Car Bra for a interstate trip ages ago.
i need RoofRacks, but its like once a year i will need them. and they are unique to Gen 2's

Also i like The idea of State reps becoming more involved, but in reality im hard pressed to help out as it is.. Like i helped Jesse out with his Clutch.. but if someone was to say, oh cool, i need XYZ can i come over next weekend and use them at your place.. ahhh no, im busy for the next 4 weeks atleast.. but i dont mind lending out my Breaker bar or whatever for the weekend. come get it.. and bring it back when it suits ME.

I'll leave the ball in Redmen's park and see where it goes.. but i'm glad the idea was not shot down instantly and that some others like the idea too.

as for The workshops.. man i dont have enough hours in the day to get to any shops and do some deals.

I like the idea, don't get me wrong, but I think it should just be a given that guys who frequent the site help each other out, like just last week Amsy borrowed my gimp suit. A thread detailing what guys have and what they are willing to lend out or help with is an ACE idea, just don't think it needs to be policed like we're a bunch of 3yo's.

With regards to workshops, redmen should just draft an email and spam a bunch of workshops and see which one's want to help out.

I reckon keep it state / locality based. Borrow it at 1 wed night meet, and return it the following, leave something as security with the person you borrowed it from.

So... I got a black and decka 1983 model orange power drill, happy lend it for a Tag Heuer Carerra 2010 watch.. Anyone keen???

I don't think the Forum Admin need the problems that can come with something like this.
Most people that know each other locally have each others numbers and are always willing to help out, and if they don't have a specific tool or part will know where to get it.
Hell, there are a few of us that already help each other out interstate.
I know I wouldn't trust anyone that I hadn't known for quite a while and met personally.
As Tony Montana would say:
In this country, you gotta make the money first.
Then when you get the money, you get the power.
Then when you get the power, then you get the women.

noobs.

word of mouth is enough for this sort of thing.

i don't think its appropriate for people to be posting up what tools they have, only to have their garage ransacked by some forum lurkers?

like I said. Word of mouth speaks greater volumes than crooks who hide behind their keyboards who post crap.

This.

People have developed too much faith in the internets. Great idea, but don't forget you're telling anyone othat can work google exactly what's in your garage.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

I'm not suggesting that I personally will come and relieve you of your tools - just that members should be aware of the fact that they're listing out the contents of their garage on a publicly available forum where your IP address is logged every time you post.
Sure it wouldn't be easy, but yes it can be done.
