howdy guys, thought id ask here as i'd get a quicker response then on the older subaru site.

* i've removed the front shock setup (including the hub being a part of the front shock)
* removed the spring
* tried removing the hub with no luck (anyone done it before?)
* NOW i can depress the shock very easily, but there is a bit of force needed to pull it back out.. i take it the shock is buggered?
* how do you remove the bearings? (so i can re-pack them with grease)

* where could i purchase replacements?

Car is question is 89 Brumby

*STI SF5 RWD Forester 84DGT

*MY10 XTP Forester 84DXT

*MY05 GT Legacy
*1989 Subaru Brumby aka 'Brat'

*1992 Subaru SVX

Got any pics?

Is there any oil leaking around the shocker?

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Sounds like the shocks are mc-rooted.

KYB Excel-G for replacements.

Hub removal? Shock and BFH.

Bearing removal? You'll need a press. If you're not down with removal of bearings from a Subaru hub, you're probably not down with packing grease into bearings.

Take the whole shebang to a trusted Mechanic/mate. Buy the parts required, and a slab of beer.

As Alex mentioned, to remove the bearings you will need a press. Even then you risk damaging the bearings.
Ive never done a early Suby, but it looks as if these are a sealed unit. Normally you just replace them when they fail.

IIRC the shocker strut is clamped by the hub. You may need to use a blunt chisel the spread the clamp so the shock slides out.
