Ok so I've come to the realisation that my philips crystal visions provide me NO vision when it comes to weather conditions such as heavy rain etc
To save my own ass and to avoid getting jacked by insurance if I ever crashed it, I really need to change them to something with more vision and is actually legal!

I don't want to spend alot of money in replacing them, I just want to know what would be the cheapest but most effective replacements to use?

To go brighter, HIDs are the solution but they are also illegal.

Crystal vision are the blue ones right? That's probably why they're not as good in the rain. Buy the Xtreme Vision (+30) bulbs. They're the best legal bulbs you can get. Will cost you about $80 locally or $30 landed from overseas if you buy off eBay.

But in all honesty, I agree with Morgan. Get HIDs. They are infinitely better than any halogen bulbs.

Gen IIIs have crap lights.
Ive tried the plus 80% globes and I don't believe they are worth it.

If I did long distance night driving I'd mount additional lights.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Your sarcasm would indicate that you do possess some form of common sense.

So let me share some here in this situation:

Most people here truly do not bother with Halogen light globes in their Subarus, especially when HID technology has become so prominent and readily available at a price that's on par with Halogen light globes, yet they yield at least ten times the efficiency and light, making them extremely great value.

Not many people bother with Halogen these days.

Not many people worry about insurance either. You have a greater chance of being killed by a drop bear, than be denied insurance because of "illegal" light globes.

Never have been denied an insurance because of my lights. I've had a few.

Each Halogen light globe is pretty much the same in terms of light emitted. You just choose how much you want to rape your wallet, and what ricey colour you want the glass of the globe to be.

Make no mistake. It's all the same sh1t. No matter the price.

Just buy the next decent brand Halogen globes, put them in.

Game over.

Profit from the savings in your wallet. Buy yourself some world of warcraft credits, pokemon cards, LEDs, a box of kleenex tissues, or whatever it is that makes you happy.

I took my HiDs out and am using the old yellow globes. That way keepin it legal and don't do enough long distance and bush driving to need brighter lights.

Hid's are nor legal nor illegal so they can be used....the only ADR law that apply's to hid use is the headlight must be clean on the outside at all time no obstructions....

Enjoy using HIDS

Pretty sure you can't use HIDs in headlight other than projectors...?
So us gen 3 drivers are out of luck. Unless you get a projector retrofit like shiv did with his outback.

Any HID headlight must be equipped with a leveling devise and headlamp washer for it to be legal.

Even then, there are ADR's relating specifically to even headlamp levelers.

In short - any aftermarket HID kit is illegal*

*unless of course you've got a compliance plate (such as those found on imported Legacy's) which except you from such ADR's. In which case your laughing!

Nah that's not the case. Its a popular myth that you need projectors to operate HID's. You still require the levelers and washers to make them compliant.

No hids dont need to be used in just projectors...and leveling is needed if the back end has lots of weight to it so they dont hit to high... But as i said they are not officially legal or illegal..
