So basically i have everything ready for the upgrade except the pads.. the calipers have been reconditioned and painted and the dogbone adapters and rotors arrived yesterday (only took 3 months).. come across a problem this mornin.. thought i had the backing shims for the pads but turns out i dont.. my question is, are they really needed.. i dont want my brakes to squeal like a b!#ch so im thinking i do need them..

thanks in advance guys..

You can use the pads without the metal shims.. Mine have none.. You may experience some squeal under brakes though.

Go grab some anti squeal spray and give the back of the pads a light coat

In addition to the above, place a SMALL smear of hi temp copper grease where the leading edge of the pads backing plate contacts the caliper bracket.
This is where a large amout of the noise comes from.

Just an update. Didn't end up using shims, the Bendix Ultimate pads already have a thing on the back which acts as the shim.

Had the brakes on for a couple days now with no problem. No squeal and the setup pulls the rig up great. Love it. Can't wait to really teat it once they bed in.
