this morning on the way home i noticed steam from the engine bay while i was driving. the car didnt over heat but i could smell coolant. so when i got home i looked and looked but couldnt find any leaking hoses.

the radiator doesnt leak, or the water pump, or the header tank. the coolant drips under the car into the driverside extractor heat shield and oil filter hose.

are there any hoses that run under the manifold or close by that may be the problem....or even a cracked block????can this happen???

thanks again fellas
Nick

Details on the car and engine may help you find an answer mate :)

Is there any coolant on the underside of the oil filler cap? Hope it's not a blown head gasket.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Check the clamp for the upper radiator hose, engine side. Loosen it, make sure the hose is pushed in all the way and re-tighten it.

I'd say you have a crack in your resovoir tank. I had the same problem with my 11 year old Gen3 Liberty. I couldnt find any leaks, until I noticed the dried up coolant. Was only a hairline fracture, but it got pretty bad.

its a 98 wrx. the top hose is fine... id say its more that likely the resiviour, but i just cant see any drops. like the engines running and the coolants dribbling and sizzling onto the header but i cant trace it. maybe ill just have to jack it up on stands run it and really get under it. i guess thats what i pay for exuberant driving the night before :(

can the car be run without tmic?

Thanks for the update Nizza, I'm having the exact same issue with mine.
I have a closed deck EJ20T in my Gen 2, and also have some coolant dripping onto the driver side exhaust at running temp. It's been doing my head in for a couple of weeks now as it steams a little when parked at the lights, but when I get to work, and open the bonnet it stops so I cant trace it!! :dash2:
Will check the oil fiter hose.

*Edit* Didn't realise this thread was so old. Sorry for the epic thread dig... As you were, nothing to see here...

Nothing wrong with a thread dig mate.

At least you searched before starting another thread.

Take a good look when its cold. Coolant will often leave a stain that can be traced.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

I just so happen to have one at the moment also...... But mine is on the passenger side above the steering rack. Seems to be coming from the engine block..........

Alex had a leak in a very similar location.
It was one of the pipes that fed the heater core.
I suggest that as a start point for any leak on the passenger side.
As Tony Montana would say:
In this country, you gotta make the money first.
Then when you get the money, you get the power.
Then when you get the power, then you get the women.
