it will bolt on no problem but you'll need to change the clock spring for your horn to work. Also you need to make/modify the contact points (sorry not the best discription. I have a pic somewhere though as i had to make one when i had a BH9 wheel on my BG5 Legacy) on the back of the wheel to enable the indicator auto cancel after turning function to work.

Aek, what about airbags?

hmm i didn't think the 92 GX was airbag equiped. if your really worried about the airbag going off simply remove it before you install the wheel

are you looking to change wheels in your car Adam? Many of the momo and OEM wheels of similar vintage use the same sized airbags units so you can change the actual airbag unit from your current wheel into the later model wheel your swapping to (provided they are ones with the same airbag size obviously. later model airbags don't work in gen 2's)

a pic would be great if you can aek cheers (:

let me have a search through photobucket and see what i can find

edit: just had a look and i don't have any pics of it uploaded. i need to go through the pics on my other computer and see if i can find it there. i might actually have the piece in a box somewhere so if i can find that you can have it.

Hadn't put much thought into it, but my old wheel is starting to fail. And I like the look of the gen 3 h6 wheel (the one with the wood) I'll have to pick your brain if I decide to make a switch!

Don't know what steering wheel you are looking at from a '97 forester, these were the stock ones in the '97 foresters, ugliest things ever.

I have since upgraded to a wrx momo from a GC8

My model didn't come with air bag so wasn't a problem removing and installing. Changing the horn contact points is easy, just need to crimp a new connected onto a wire and connect it to the existing horn wire. Very easy stuff. Hardest bit was getting the wheel off.

Guy on ozfoz is selling a momo from japan, $160 delivered, email him g.vanwijk@yahoo.com.au to organise and for pics.

mate what you've done is a GC8 (MY98 V5 WRX/STI or later) wheel to SF5 Forester, regarding horn function, that's different from an early impreza or liberty swapping to newer Impreza GC (MY98 V5 or newer), Liberty Gen 2 Series 2 or newer or any Forester wheels. The earlier impreza (GC MY92-MY97 V1,2,3 and 4) and liberty (Gen 1 and Gen 2 Series 1) have two metal rings that touch to create the connecting, unlike the plugs that are on later model Impreza GC (MY98 V5 or newer), Liberty (Gen 2 BG/BD Series 2) or newer or all Foresters. Definately easy to do but more mucking about than what you went through with yours

also the GC8 (MY98 V5 WRX/STI or later) wheel to SF5 Forester is easy as the auto indicator return mechanisim is the same. as i mentioned previously, for earlier impreza (GC MY92-MY97 V1,2,3 and 4) and liberty (Gen 1 and Gen 2 Series 1) the return mechanisim is different. It will not work if you simply put the wheel on, if you do you will manually have to cancel the indicator after turning a corner.

I think I posted up how to do a wheel change on the old ozlib after I replaced the Gen2 momo one for a red stitched v6 sti one. Matched the red stitching on the 6 speed. :)

Ah yep, I see what you mean aek.
I didn't have to change anything for the indicator, plugged straight in.
With the horn, there are contact points on each side of the air bag and I just made a new connection.

Edit: Don't the Gen2 RX or heritage come with a momo wheel? When I was shopping for one that's one thing I noticed from the RX models.

Yes, the RX comes with a momo wheel that looks the same as the one in your pic above.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

if it is of similar design to your current one, you might be able to mount your indicator and/or cruise control modules inside the new wheel with little modification.

Yeh you might have the same problem I do, my cruise module doesn't fit from the old wheel to the new one. I have bought a spare one from a fellow ozfoz member which should be arriving soon.
Subaru Parts Depot have the module for $32 + $39 delivery I think.
