He's having a hard time justifying spending almost 30 on a car he knows that he is going to sell to me in 2.5 years.

That's why he should spend $18k on an XT Forester of the same vintage instead.

Resale in 2.5 years will be a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge bitch.
Plus, maybe he doesn't enjoy boating?

Resale to me wont be much of a bitch.
Also, if he does get a turbo, It will be under the company name (his company), which i am technically an employee of. So that may mean turbo exemption for me.

Aww boating is awesome

Resale would be worse on the TB.
Buy TB for $30k today
Sell TB for $20k in 2.5 years
OR
Buy XT for $20k today
Sell XT for $15k in 2.5 years

I'd wager a ltd ed STi edition Lib would be worth more than a newer, garden variety XT. It's about where the cars are at in their resale cycle...

Redbook data to back that up, Morgantron?

Redbook is not what I'd be going off

No doubt the TB would be worth more. It's the rate of depreciation which I'm estimating.
I don't think the XT would drop $10k in value over the next 24-30 months but the TB is more likely to drop that much - probably because it's worth more to start with.
Ie, how long have Gen1 RS's been around the $5-7k mark?! In 2.5 years, they'll still probably be around that mark because of their rarety.

Yeah, the paid redbook data that you get with a purchase of a premium carsales ad is surprisingly accurate, much better than online. He aint getting any redbook data that would back it up for free, free website prices mean shit.
But at then end of the day, a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I'd be lucky to get 7k for mine, as is.

Stock ones go for $3-$3500. Ratty ones only get $1k-$2k. A good GX is actually more desirable than an RS!
