I'm being told since i have an auto and want to do a little bit of drag racing to get a transmission lock.
Will this help me at all? since i can only get it to rev upto 2500 before i take off.
And if so is it mechanical or electronic ?

Do you mean a trans brake?

These will cause the transmission to select two gears at the same time thus locking it solid. This allows the engine to be held at full throttle to run the engine speed up to the coupling point (stall speed) of the torque converter without the use of the brakes allowing the car to leave the line at maximum grunt. This also prevents the front tyres skidding over the start line.
When the tree goes green, flick the switch and hang on.

Only really needed for big torque drag cars running hi-stall converters.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Don't bother.
You will kill your trans.

Can't you just use the cars foot brake? Hold brake, it will likely groan and complain... rev it up, let the brake out. A sort of... fake launch control, without breaking the transmission hopefully.. Obviously it wont take it often, but neither do most Subaru boxes. Not great drag cars from what I have heard :P

And hopefully a gearbox so you can buy a manual box and do some real drag racing ;)
If it's broke use a cable tie.

lol, well I didn't say it was a good idea.

And hopefully a gearbox/engine so you can buy a better car and do some real drag racing ;)

Fixed that for you.

I even miss the TT lag sometimes

It isn't the car itself, its just Subaru in general, they aren't known for their ability to handle drag launches? I am going to try and get the newer 6 speed in whatever Suby I get next. I love my B4 but it was and always will be a compromise until my bank account agrees with me.

I love the secondary kick :P someone needs to make a 3ltr twin turbo, with the newer technology it'd be a beast.

I regularly stall mine up on the brakes, usually get to about 0.5bar boost then let the brakes off for an awesome launch. My friends sti needed a clutch sidestep from over 5000rpm to keep up with it at launch. Sidestepping the clutch will break manual box much quicker than stalling up an auto. As long as you don't hold it stalled for more than 2-3sec then you won't do any damage. It actually says to do this in the FSM to check the stall speed and make sure the clutches aren't slipping.
I would probably recommend a dedicated trans cooler, and you need to do more regular fluid changes if you drive it in this manner
