Such a buzz about it.
Old man's retirement plan is to buy an apartment in the city with harbour views. Epic NYE's will be epic.
Most people want to go to the country to retire. Dad's doing the opposite

Go to Sandown Raceway and watch historical race cars go door to door? See some Formula 5000 cars being worked on in the pit sheds? Get shown around by our resident chrome bumper technician?
Eat, drink and shop.
Hit the train lines up for my fill of one of the best free art galleries in the world?
Eat, drink and shop.
Go to the Melbourne Cup? Oaks Day?
Eat, drink and shop.

Most of the people in our Melbourne office I was speaking to said that it is often not worth bothering with taxi's.. you can call 13 cabs and wait the "45 mins" only to not ever have one arrive or arrive 2 hours later.

The taxi issue has been featuring in the news of late.
A good mate of mind who travels a lot with work just uses the VHA cars instead of Taxis. No wasted time and in some cases cheaper.

This is true, I distinctly remember spending almost 60-minutes looking for a cab one day with my mates in the heart of the CBD.Jase..... you are assuming you can find a taxi driver... Melbourne has by far the worst taxi service I have ever experienced.
However regardless of whether its Sydney or Melbourne - both cities have crap cab drivers. Its like they're programmed to be the worst drivers on the road.

I got into a taxi and he told me Sandown Raceway was four hours away, then I called Jase and he gave me pretty basic instructions to get onto what was later revealed to be a fairly major

By the end of it I called the number on the side of the hundreds of taxis that were heading back into the city on the other side of the road - and they came faaaiiirrrlllyyy quickly, bout fifteen minutes.
When I arrived at Sandown, I was up for over $100 for the trip.
Don't really give a
