Hey guys, gonna fit some new brakes next weekend and i'll need to get some more fluid as well. It says on the cap "Use only DOT 3," i'd rather use dot 4 and was wondering if anyone else has just ignored the cap and put DOT 4/5 in? What could go wrong if i put in dot 4? Help appreciated as usual. Thanks guys, Ash

You can use DOT4, that's also glycol based like DOT3. DOT5 is silicone based, so don't use it unless you do a full flush. You could run DOT5.1, which is glycol based...

Does anyone have some links to any technical information regarding the performance of the different brake fluids?

Use some Castrol Response fluid. Its not expensive and is compatible with dot3 and 4 so it can be mixed with your current if you dont flush the whole lot.

Castrol super response dot 4, the one in the silver bottle is the one I used on my wrx. For the price its the best you can get, looking at around $30+ per bottle if you go for anything better.

It holds up well though? Saw some others like ferodo for like $25 for 350ml, then i saw Castrol for $11something and got it because it was cheaper lol.

Unless you do hard driving it doesn't matter what brand of brake fluid you use. dot 4 actually has a higher boiling point so thats a good thing(don't use dot 5). As a general rule when doing bleeding, make sure you start from the furthest from the brake master cylinder. so in your case you start from left rear then right rear then left front then right front make sure you always keep the resoviour filled and thats it also try to do this on a sunny day good luck
