Richo,

would an overheating CPU need a new cooler, or new CPU?

Probably a stupid question.

The heatsink is more than likely full of dust, the thermal interface material might have dried out, or it was installed wrong

are you overclocking it ?

Nope, Custom build from a PC shop, and to avoid this, i let them assemble it.

Whats the best way to get a fuckton of dust out?

Its not overclocked.

Do you want specs? Cause apparently, you are pretty good with IT.

Nope, No error messages.

It just Shuts off, straight to black.

When i turn it back on, the fans get a sudden rush of power for about a second, then goes back to normal.

This is the message i sent to them:

Guys,
I have been having this problem with the computer I bought from you guys for quite a while now. Every so often the computer will just turn itself off. When I turn it back on, you can hear that the fan (and I'm assuming the whole computer) gets a sudden burst of power, the goes back to normal operation. Im assuming its a problem with the power supply.

The Specs are:
Thermaltake v4 Black Tower with the 450W Power Supply.
AMD Athlon II x4 640 3.0ghz.
MSI 740gm-P25 2DDR3
Gigabyte GTS450 1gb
2x 4gb Team Elite DDR3 1333mhz Ram.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

thats fairly normal with "smart" cooling systems. When you first turn the PC on, it does not know the systems health, assumes the worst and cranks the fan up. Once its read the temp, it adjusts the fan speed. If you think its heat, try one of these applications to monitor it.

http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

There might be a "pc health" section in the bios you can check. It might have a shutdown temp set to something stupidly low

The computer turning off could also be a fault with the motherboard or PSU. Other things could cause it, but are less likely
