I thought this was pretty cool, its the first time this configuration has been employed into a mass production vehicle

Looking from the front of the engine you will notice that there are two inter-coolers which connect from the centre of the engine and then connect down to where the exhaust outlets would usually be found,
however on this engine this is in-fact the intake side of the head, the exhaust side is pointing towards the center of the block where two turbo-chargers are rested.
They have done this to create one of the shortest possible inter-cooled-intake and exhaust routes for maximum response.
They use this technology with Direct Injection to make 300Kw and 600Nm @ 1750 - 4500RPM from the 4.4L V8 Block
I though it was interesting as a different take on engine design to what most of us are used to, unless you are familier with some of the earlier F1 engine designs.

Shortest intercooler path? That means no flutter :P haha Guess BMW V8s won't be hoon cars any time soon... :D BMW make some nice engineering feats.
