China has also bought some tooling from Subaru Japan for production of their own local cars.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see some Chinese made stuff soon from them.

pick up my beast wagon a bit earlier. Get it tomorrow :)

Question though is anyone aware on how the stop start works extactly? Does it start it using the starter motor etc, reason I ask is because that is massive extra wear and tear. I'm sure its done some other way.

HOLY CR@P!!! I wont be switching it off then :S

I guess in normal driving it wont really matter if it turns off because it would only really be at lights.

As soon as you have Stopped( 0.40 seconds) the engine cuts off ( dosnt use starter motor ) and as soon as u lift your foot of brake petal ( 0.25 seconds) it restarts , but again it doesn't use the starter motor it's computer controlled , you can switch it off but why would u this XV is so awesome on petrol ,
You can't turn it off permanent as when u turn car off and on again it resets to being on,
Same as the VCD you can turn it off but as soon as u restart car again it resets to being on
( manual version works different as the clutch and neutral gear is needed )

I would also like to know how the engine starts without the starter?

And like I said, 14c in a tank isn't a massive saving ;)

I have also heard cars around me with this stop start feature at traffic lights.

Sounds very much like a regular start up to me.

agreed! uses normal starter and battery, starters are "apparently" are made to withstand alot of on off cycling,

altho you wouldnt want your battery to die
mazda tried to do a system a while ago where it didnt use the starter motor but never came into production

Auto Start Stop background

Auto Start Stop stops the engine when the vehicle is temporarily stationary, such as at traffic lights. It reduces fuel consumption.

In Lineartronic™ CVT-equipped vehicles the engine stops 0.5 seconds after the car halts. When the brake is released, the engine starts after 0.35 seconds.

In six-speed manual Impreza and XV, the engines also stops 0.5 seconds after the car halts, when the car is in neutral, or the clutch released. It restarts 0.35 seconds after the clutch is pressed.

FHI studies indicate cars may be stopped up to 30 per cent of travel time, particularly in peak hour.

An “off” button enables Auto Start Stop to be turned off – the default is “on”.

A special starter and Inrush Current Reduction (ICR) relay are among the components supporting Auto Start Stop. The ICR relay stabilizes power supply during idle reduction, so instruments and displays do not flicker.

The starter in Lineatronic™ CVT Impreza and XV features tandem solenoids. Independent solenoids control the motor and the pinion gear connecting engine and motor rotation, ensuring rapid engine restart in as little as 0.2 seconds. An electric pump supplies oil to the forward clutch’s hydraulic circuit while the engine is stopped. This minimizes delay between engine restart and vehicle motion, producing smoother driving.

During Auto Start Stop operation, the air conditioner, navigation and audio systems are all fed by the auxiliary power supply.

Vehicles with Auto Start Stop are fitted with a long-life battery.

On XV manual variants, Hill Start Assist ensures Auto Start Stop operates safely on hills.

To avoid wasting electrical energy, the car’s electric power steering is turned off whenever the engine is automatically stopped.

WOW there you go. I understand some of that. Still sounds like a potential battery killer.

Picked up my 2.0i-S this morning :)

For a second, I was starting to think that the XV, the best car in this multiverse. Came with Dragons installed in the engine, meaning you didn't require a starter anymore!

Picked up my 2.0i-S this morning :)

Got the beast wagon, isn't as slow as I thought it would be. The stop start is a bit iffy, I stop at lights turns off fine however without taking my foot off the brake it starts up again before I'm ready to take off. Anyone else experience this? Maybe I'm not putting my foot on the brake pedal hard enough or something?

How does one change the time? Don't answer that I'll read the manual :(

Thanks mate ill try that spot.

Question about stop start, does your engine start sometimes even when you don't release the brake? Its normally after sitting with the engine auto off for a decent amount of time.
