Okay, so now that my exam block is over, and im on holidays, I have time to fix this. Havent been driving much, to keep costs down, and i want to get back driving properly.

I cleaned my MAF sensor the other day, which was disgustingly dirty, Im off today to buy more sensor cleaner to do the O2 sensor too.
The car isnt throwing any codes though (which makes me think the o2 sensor doesnt need replacing, just cleaning), but i noticed that this isnt plugged into anything, which doesnt seem right; cant see anywhere for it to go either. Any ideas?

Also, after taking to Aaron yesterday, he thinks it may be an air leak, How can i test for this?
(sorry aaron, i know you told me but i forgot, i was too interested in your car :) )

Do the basic air filter fuel filter spark plugs, cleaning the maf sensor i wouldnt do as it never helps may even cause it to fail.(even the o2 i wouldnt clean) they dont like it generally the heater circuit fails in it and its $400 or so to replace with a new one... Do not take aussie templers advice to change the injectors thats a $500+ dollar guess, i wouldnt do any type of additive they clog up more stuff then do good. Give it a good upper engine clean and check for air leaks tightening all clamps and check for visual cracks.
Or even get a on car injection cleaning done its not as good as taking them off and giving them a sonic bath but might help.... and its cheaper then injectors change.

What fuel are you using if your using E10 change....
Also how heavy is your foot on the gas pedal? Dont push it in the rev range as much to make get up in speed, and reset the ecu.

Good luck hope it helps your issue

(that big plug in your pic does not plug in anywhere)

I only ever use 95 or 98.
I get 20L/100ks when NOT driving hard, (4k rpm max), It gets worse as i go higher.

I would be looking at the MAF signal when the fuel consumption is this high. Its possible it could be faulty but still producing a 'in range' signal, thus it will not log a code. A faulty O2 sensor is a possibility but this is a 'trimming' signal used to adjust the baseline fuel table produced by the MAF.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Buy a Gen2.....

My 2.5 does about 8.8-9.2L /100kms driving through the city everyday.

Id defintiely be checking for codes first.

you are not driving it hard enough

that plug is good for lots of connections eg: acc. power, reverse signal, lights, ect. there are a few more but cant think of them right now. in japan they actually sell the female plug for that with all the wires labelled for where they go. i had one in my legacy..you can find them on importmonster

Jordan I'll be changing the o2 sensor.. If that doesn't change anything I'd look at the afm.. Also get a can of carby/throttlebody cleaner and spray around the inlet manifold and all vacuum hoses while the engine is running, if there is an air leak the idle speed will increase.

Just got a new exhaust, but the old one was relatively clean.
New one has been on for over a week and is still perfectly clean, but to be fair i haven't been driving much.

Jase thanks for your PM. It was quite useful.

If you are going to use a generic 3 wire O2 sensor, check the resistance of the heater circuit and compare it to the original.

I think you should be looking at high 10's, thats roughly what mine gets around town.

Dude, relax on the PMs

Post your questions here. No one will bag you out for asking questions that will help you learn and your questions may help others.

Does anyone know if Gen III 2.0 O2 sensor will work on a Gen III 2.5?

Thanks.

Sorry -_-

Sensor in question is here:

A bit of an update in the thread (not in PM's)

After taking it out and cleaning it, (not that anyone, myself included thought it was going to do anything) i've moved from ~22L/100ks to about 15-16L/100k's, but im still waiting for a full tank to be used to an accurate measurement. So the problem is not URGENT now, so im just going to get it done with my service thats due VERY soon.

Im thinking the sensor may not have been screwed in properly, and wasn't working properly to be getting ~22ish.

Hi,

Dude, relax on the PMs

Haha, you pissed off the most chilled dude in the universe. Nice work JordiShore.

Get your car fixed, pay someone. If it goes down to a normal 9l/100 you'll more than halve your fuel bill.

Cheers,
Nik

have you pulled your plugs out to check how the car is running mate?

also simple things like the air filter? is it newish and clean

also how are you working out how much fuel you are using?
do you fill it up and then see how many kms you get from how much you put back in?

Yes to both, and they're normal.

To check, I fill up fully, and drive till I get a the light. Was getting ~290km,
Now I've done 350ish and have just over a quarter tank left.

After that, are you filling the car back up again to see how much you actually just used? Say you put in 45L, from that number, working out the litre/100km?
