Guys, I found this software and a cable which mimics the Subaru Select system and allows you to monitor and log pretty much everything from what I can see. Works from 89 to current pretty much.

Any comments on this system as I am seriously looking to buy one as they are only USD$89 and upgrades are free, this includes the correct cable.

Great find, pretty cheap too.
As Tony Montana would say:
In this country, you gotta make the money first.
Then when you get the money, you get the power.
Then when you get the power, then you get the women.

Am I missing something or am I looking at the wrong thing, and do you need a laptop to use it? Mitsubishi & Subaru Scan Tool - Datalogging $397.95AUD

It's just a standard Tactrix OpenPort cable... the software is attainable for free. Yes, you will need a laptop to tune or to datalog.

That's exactly what I've done with my ECU... I have the maps for it all, too, so I can revert back to stock at any time.

All you need is an OpenPort cable, and some software which is open source and free - EcuFlash, EcuExplorer, Enguinuity. Understanding of how ECU maps work might also be an added bonus. :P

yes i am new to this side of working on cars but i'm interested. if i can hack into my stock ej22 ecu and play around(properly) i can hopefully make it run leaner on part throttle applications and stuff like that and see whats happening across the revs and loads. I'll try and get this cable and then ask you guys for help with the software. wouldn't i need a wideband o2 sensor for this kinda thing?

jak4cars - what year is your car?

As far as I know (And I will gladly be corrected on this if I am wrong) the older style ECU's (JECS) which were replaced in MY00 models I think across the board (to OBD-II interface) are not able to be tuned. They can be monitored, via the OBD-I port - however not tuned. You will need a piggyback ECU to do tuning, or a replacement standalone unit.

Edit: OK, just seen that you have a Gen2 - so unfortunately no tuning options for you at the moment with your stocker ECU.
