Hey Folks,

I've got an old Gen3 OBK. The fuel level gague started going funny about 2years ago. But I just ignored it and it worked 1/2 the time.

About 6 months ago I took the car in for a service at my local guy and told him about the problem. He went through the car and said both sensors were ok, and the problem was electrical. He then went as far as to suggest a faulty windscreen could be causing water to leak in the wrong place. So I ignored the problem and tried to stay out of the rain.

However a few weeks back it finally stopped properly, so I've now started some DIY and stripped the car down, I've removed and tested both the sensors, A-OK. I've traced the wiring (as best as I could) behind the dash to the cluster and it seems ok.

So I'm stumped whats causing it. I'm aware the circuits for the light and the gague are different, but the light stay on all the time and the gague just doesnt move.

So, I'm at a loss what to try next. I've put the car back togther today, and now looking for an autoelec. Ideally someone who has worked on Subaru's before and may be familiar with the fuel stuff.

So you checked both the fuel level sensors in the tank? Clean where the contact for the float touch?
Gen 1 4WD (not 2WD) used to go thru sensors, had to replace both.

2002 Outback - it's gone...
