So Katie just got called into her managers office and spoken to because she leaves at 5pm every day.

Her office hours are 8:30 - 5 and she is on a certain wage.

She was told that either she stays in the office past 5pm or her wage goes down.

Surely her boss has zero grounds to stand on?

Does her contract state reasonable unpaid overtime anywhere?

Just leave at 5:02

Wait till they give her an official warning for 'leaving early'...then take the written warning to the fair work people.

Otherwise, keep doing what she's doing.

Also as far as i'm aware (unless it's paid in bonuses) they can't decrease pay without a change of job title.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Morgrain, for me personally that would be alarm bells shit when they start trying to pull that crap.
If her contract was signed as office hours 8:30-5pm on X wage, it is illegal for them to say "do more hours or we will cut your pay".

As much as KT has a leg to stand on, fighting that with what sounds to be a total shitbag of a human for manager will probably just end in a hostile work place.

It says something to the effect of 'you are obliged to stay back if necessary' which is absolutely fine. She does this all the time. She works so much overtime it's not even funny.

However, her workday ends at 5pm and she's got to spend the next 2 hours on 2 different trains to get home and if she misses the first lot, it put's another 30-40 mins on her journey.

If no one's life is at in jeopardy at the office, she's damn well going to leave at 5.

She's going to get out of there as soon as she can. Company went through a massive restructure a few months ago when she got the promotion to wedding stylist (which is a 2-3 person job that she is doing all by herself mind you). Then the person who initiated the restructure got fed up and left. Her replacement is such a joke.

I think it's fairly normal for her industry to have a reasonable level of staff turnover, but I've NEVER come across a level as high as this one. No joke, in the last 2 years I've probably heard the same story a dozen times about someone going into the big bosses office and storming out in tears, grabbing their belongings and running out the door never to be seen again.

hahahahahahahahahahaha so Naive Mr Morgan, the same happens at many companies, senior management sit around patting each other on the back for a job well done, the high turnover at staff obviously has nothing to do with the conditions and pay set out by them..... LOL

My work hours are 7-3:30. I leave at 3:15. And no one says anything.

Salary is bullshit. Unless you are getting a shit load of money. My GF works back and at home with no OT pay. You should be paid for the hours u do.

No it didn't. You bastard.

Salaries are MEANT to include the extra hours you do though. So your hourly rate may seem higher as a regular week, until you factor in the Unpaid OT
