Rumors that the unpopular Subaru Tribeca is being cut from the brand’s product line are being denied by a company spokesperson.

Yesterday we reported that there was a rumor about the vehicle being discontinued after seeing hopelessly inadequate sales, talking to Inautonews, the company flatly denied that report, saying that it will, in fact, continue into the 2013 model year.

The trouble is that the car struggled since its 2005 debut to gain popularity or traction with consumers. Subaru managed to sell 10,975 units in 2008, but those numbers dwindled to 2,791 by 2010.

Considered ugly and irrelevant by many, the industry probably breathed a collective sigh of relief when that news broke. Unfortunately, Subaru doesn’t seem ready to admit that it’s throwing the baby out with the bathwater by continuing production.

Past rumors suggested that an upcoming version might be based on the Toyota Highlander, and given the confirmation that the unpopular Subie will stay in the lineup, there’s a chance something like that might actually happen.

Whichever executive at Subaru that decided it would be a good idea to continue production of this monstrosity should have their position culled.

The decision to continue production of a car, that made under 3000 sales, is beyond me. That is how a company goes bankrupt.

Cheers,
Shazza

Cancel the decision not to cancel.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

So in 10 years time are Toyota and Subaru just gonna share their model line-up entirely?

You so wouldn't. You know you'd get a Landcruiser or Patrol over this. :-)

Yeah.

Nah.

I probably would have in the 90's.

Not now.

Four cylinder common rail turbo diesels FTMFW.

If there was a wagon variant (Mitusbishi Challenger) I'd consider it.

If Subaru made a wagon variant with similar specs, I'd be over it like a rash.

Instead of Tribeca, why not spend that money on buying their styling department a good set of glasses so they can see how ugly some of things they've designed are....

The front end of the current one isn't too bad, but the rear is still ugly.
Lets hope they do an ass lift and make it look better all round.

Volkswagen Amarok ftw.

Yeah nah.

Amarok is only a 2.0L TT.

TT.

Still scarred by that fact.

Oh, and it only tows 2.8t.

If they increase the size of their power plant, and add DSG, then it'll be chock full of win.

Until then... yeah nah.

A lot of manufacturers are starting to drop DSG in favour of 8 speed Autos, too many issues with DSG at the moment on the mass produced stuff.

Didn't she just write it off though?

Take it as an omen, brother. :)
