Oops - slightly off on my calculations. Article references 107 nautical miles which after converting is actually 123 normal miles, so add another 23 miles to my measurement map above.

At Australia's request, the United Kingdom transferred sovereignty to Australia; in 1957, the Australian government paid the government of Singapore £2.9 million in compensation, a figure based mainly on an estimated value of the phosphate forgone by Singapore.

Yeah..... Those people were still technically in indonesian waters, but because Indo is shit and can't afford stuff they don't have the means to effectively mount a rescue operation.

Allow me to elaborate on this. I have no problem with international peoples coming to australia to reside. No problems with that whatsoever. They generally work harder then aussies, and want to have a better quality of life, i get that. But when people come here through unofficial channels, and put themselves in danger doing so, then thats when the boat needs to be towed back to the country of its departure, the people educated on the correct ways to emmigrate, and then follow the process.
