dumb arse train driver thought it was s good idea to mash the go pedal (lever thing) like he was racing the train beside us, we get to our platform still smashing along when he realises, smashes the breaks and we just skid through it and had to go to the next station in a train that smelled of burnt brake pads :S grrrrrr. another train back the other way now.

Train hit VTEC, yo!

Wb Adam.

I'm glad you lads understand the circumstances.

Looking at $7k mark.

Good buying on an appreciating asset, with some good JDM mechanicals.

Sad, but understandable.

Okay, so I'm sorting out my diff.

Going to use a R31 auto diff (28 spline, 3.9:1) with the KE70 mounts relocated onto the diff. The diff itself is 60mm wider, so I'm going to find some +30 offset rear wheels to combat the extra length (or run bolt on guards) Then i'm going to buy a MiniSpool for $99, and bung that in, followed by mounting 2 sets of VS Commodore calipers on the rear (One set dedicated for Hydro handbrake, and the other for normal handbrake) Adjustable panhard rod, with KE70 mount switched across.

Jase / Josh / Techheads? That wont break behind a CA18 will it? Lol.

Maybe not in a S13, but in a KE70 that weighs 800kgs, with a bit of encouragement (re: boost) I don't think im going to have a choice in the traction debate. Might even go for 9" rear wheels with some CHUNKY rubber on it.

Two calipers? WTF.
Are you sure the Commo rears wont give it too much bias? You might need to investigate front calipers piston size and master bore size to make it all work (Pascals law if you are into physics)

You have 800kg car so the R31 is enough. Even with eleventy billion fasts it will just break traction. You could put a Morris 1000 diff in it and I doubt it will bust it.

9''? Doubt you will have enough torque to turn it. Leave it for the real cars like the V8s. :P

Turbocharged or supercharged?

Why don't we have both?

Hai Jase.

Would love to get into an EH later on.

Preferably a ute (old boy had one about 25 years ago) but I'd love a wagon too.

Fetching retarded coin yet? Or are they achievable for around $10-15k for a reasonable one?

Jase,

I've got big single piston tarago calipers on the front with massive rotors, so it shouldn't be *too* much of an overkill. Second set of calipers purely for hydro handbrake setup. Won't be used for normal day to day braking. The hydro handbrake has a quick release too, so I don't have to leave it attached all the time, which is awesome coz I can just put it on when I need too an it won't take up space.

Nick,

Posted Image'ing awesome. Are you gunna do it to the standard motor, or buy a second an do that.

Oh hai.

EH are a little on the old side for me, but a S4 would be sweet.
No idea on $ but at a guess Morgs is on the money.

I was looking at a VERY nice (resto completed 6 monts ago) VJ Charger XL that was just sold for $50k. I never thought a non RT car would get that much so I guess the price is really what the buyer will pay.

I'd use the engine in there now, as it's Posted Image'ing mint!

I dont know I think I need some advice. Iain suggested engine conversions, but I want to keep stock M20 engine in this car to try and keep it original.

I can buy a 3.1L stroker kit for around $2k from the states. The previous owner has already upgraded the cams, larger injectors and fuel pump, chipped ECU and a MAF conversion.

This just means I'd need the block bored/honed, correct? Is it worth porting/polishing the heads as well??

Y U FUX0RING WITH TEH BRAKES SO MUCH SHAZ?

Brakes need to be engineerable too. Hydraulic handbrae setup is a definite no go with a road registered car.

No voodoo mix'n'match combo. Go with a tried and tested method, that's low on the customization. Bolt on factory parts FTW.

Brake bias FTW.

Buy second hand M20. Slow build second motor on a stand.

I wish I had time and space and brains to do that!! If my brother in law lived down here (he's been a mechanic for 12 years) I could probably do it with him.. but my dad uses the entire garage and we both dont have the mechanical knowledge to do so! Besides this M20 is mint anyway.. that might be a bad thing altering it though hey, could lose value.
