hello everyone, As per title my car has AIDS, well the engine atleast. Dad said this morning that when i start the car up and its cold it blows a little bit of smoke. I checked it out and it does. Dad said it lasts for like 2 seconds but when i checked it was going for a minute or there about, then i just hopped in and drove off so i suspect it just blows smoke till its warm. Whats causing this? Im guessing its internal so it wont be an easy fix. How fixable is it? Because of this and the added "bonus" of my lovely tappets ive decided not to modify the car, rather just keep it running as smoothly as i can and sell it late next year and buy either a nice RS or S14 (dont hate me for saying that). Any help is appreciated :) Cheers, Ash

What colour is the smoke? Blue or white?

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

Blue would indicate it's burning oil. White would indicate it's burning water.

Head gasket? Last service came up with a probable head gasket oil leak so that could be the culprit?

yeh that could be but how would they know? they must be seeing the oil seep outside, their is no way they know that oil is leaking from their into the chambers. how many k's has your car done? i think the smoke is just abit of oil being burnt untill your rings expand as the engine warms up which isn't great but alot of older cars do it but main thing is its nothing to worry about so long as its cleared by the time its warm.

Yeah you can see some oil has seeped through. That could very well be it, the rings thing. New rings to fix this?

It could be leaking valve seats or what ever they're called.

new rings is practially calling for a rebuild, your better of just chucking in another ej22. there's tons of em around. soop means - valve stem seals but i personally doubt that, their is a way to check that. let the car idle for 2 3 minutes then comeback and give it a rev(no need to press hard) and see if any smoke comes out, if it does then it is your valve stem seals but i reckon its your rings. again, how many k's has your car done?

My engine blows black smoke only when i give it a bit, reset the ecu and that doesnt fix it so im guessing a sensor? i'll do an error check tomorrow but anyone got any ideas? also it blews a small amount of white smoke which is water or engine coolant or whatever so im guessing thats f**ked heads?

black smoke means its overfueling, i'm guessing it would be afm but it could be a number of sensors, how is it on fuel? when do you see the white smoke?

well i think its tps, but that rarly needs touching so it is probably a sensor but could be a number... on idle when cold or anytime?

Wow its working now. So has anyone else go an opinion? Jaks given me an idea on what could be wrong, anyone supporting this? Oh dad says its blue smoke but i couldnt really see this morning as there was heaps of glare off the drive. Ill check again tomorrow. If it is the rings or valve stem seals its basically a new motor to fix?

If you're blowing black smoke - have you checked / replaced your O2 sensor?

No clue on the other stuff guys, sorry.
