Hey guys, I'll be selling the wagon shortly and starting a GC8 project.
I'm looking at H6, Manual, Gen4 libertys.

I may even settle for a N/A 2.5 if the price is right, It's only a daily after all.

So, How has your GEN4 treated you?

Cheers guys.

Everyone I know that has a Gen4 (of any model) can't give them enough praise. Great cars, I have driven one when I was in the market for them but I could only afford a N/A base model series 1 which put me off buying into Gen4 at the time, but next time round :D the 2.5 ltr went ok for a daily, nothing majorly exciting about it though haha.

you obviously haven't spoken with Aaron or Paul about their Gen 4 3.0RB's then. Paul's has been in and out of Subaru since he got it and it's only just starting to come good (i think) after MANY dollars spent, Aaron's did a big end with 60k on the clock. I'd say these are exceptions to the rule but the two people i know who've had a 3.0RB both hate them

The 2.5 is great for a daily, terrible through the twisties. You'll find way more parts for 2L and 2.5L gen 4's, opposed to the 3L H6, stock and aftermarket. Definitely recommend the Gen 4's though. I'd suggest a GT if anything, they still look like a regular Liberty just a few upgrades. Like a turbo. Hell, if you have the money go for a GT Tuned By STi, even better!

Won't be touching it besides services.

I've witnessed one gen4 2.5i that had oil consumption issues.

according to Subaru 1qt is normal every 1000 miles.
(not sure if this applies to non aspirated)

However, I have a friend who runs truck oil in his Subaru and his oil consumption is fine..
I can't remember the lingo but you've either should or shouldn't use synthetic oil in subys despite what the manufacturer says.
(This only applies to turbo)

I have a colleague who has a manual (6sp) H6 gen4 wagon and they are very rare. If you can find one, grab it!

In the next 6 months I will hopefully be in the market for a 2.5 auto wagon. I reckon they are a great daily.

@Walker, I run diesel truck oil in the XT and it loves it. And re the synth oils, you are correct. I believe the synth oils glazes over the bores which doesn't do you any favours.

Thanks guys, I think a 2.5 will be fine.

I'm assuming that's Mobil Delvac oil Morgan? It's great stuff.

I think the 1QT per 1000miles is pathetic as my wagon uses no oil between services.

A mate of mine tows his GF8 race car interstate with a GenIV H6 manual. Loves it.

He has update the clutch however with a heavy duty carbon fibre unit.
