Dude was illegally publishing government documents directly linked to national security... why the is he a hero!?

The thing about Assange is that he had published alot of shit, not JUST national security stuff, but internal government conflicts, general dodginess, and basically uncovered proof of goverment wrongdoings. I genuinely believe that the whole "Extradition to Sweden for Rape Charges" thing is complete and utter bullshit. We all know that as soon as he is prosecuted in Sweden, he will be extradited straight to the US, where there is no way in hell he will stand for a fair trial. I've read through a fair few of those cables that he released, and there is alot of shit in there, that is dodgy as hell man, specifically the internal goverment shit.

As for the Australian consular assistance, Gillard PUBLICLY refused to offer him asylum, even though he is entitled to it as an Australian citizen. I'm sure they have offered him "assistance" but not to the point as to where it needs to be for him to actually accept it. Instead, the bloke is forced to take asylum in a 3rd world countries diplomatic headquarters, whilst his home country has basically shut the door on him. Maybe he should get in a boat and make his way here.

I don't think that they are working together in a clandestine fashion, but if you believe for a second that the US of A wouldn't use their power to extradite him from Sweden, then thats a whole different story. I know alot of people won't agree with me, but him releasing those docs made for awesome reading, and even made some govenments accountable, and responsible for something that they otherwise wouldn't have been.

I don't know enough about the situation to make a judgement, but stating that Australia has closed the door on him and he has had to take refuge in a third world country also looks good for his cause... not saying it isn't true as I honestly don't know.

He might be some sort of hero in the eyes of some people, and I guess Hollywood tells us the people trying to silence him are the Illuminati. I don't know. I wouldn't claim to.

Julian Assange is calling himself a 7th (6th maybe?) generation Australian with Torres Straight Islander roots. He's been in talks with Ecuador since '09. He's Chinese. I have no idea what the go is with this bloke, but I don't think he's done all this amazing good that people seem to think he has.

The thing is, much like Bradley Manning (Remember that bloke? been in jail now for 816 days without trial), the US wants to extradite him for terrorism, which he could end up facing the death penalty. There was a cable that was released by Wikileaks, which was sent from someone in the US government stating that once he was taken to Sweden, he would be extradited to the US, as it is apparently "Easier for them to do that then from London"

I do believe that Bob Carr has attemped to offer some kind of assitance, but he also blatently denied that there has been any kind of extradition orders passed on from USA to Sweden, which is completely misleading, and lying.

The thing is, that William Hague bloke has even said that if asked, the government is obliged under its own law to comply with extradition orders - something that Equador does not have.


Regardless, just because he has pissed alot of government officials off, doesn't mean that he is a terrorist. I look forward to discussing this further at MDSC over beers.

How is it misleading? Why in the flaming depths of international political hell would the US openly state to someone like Bob FUCKIN' Carr that they are coursing an extradition from Sweden - thus further clouding the judgement of the sexual assault trial? An extradition order, in true terms, is public knowledge - Reuters themselves could access it, and if it's done behind the wall then it's not going to look good.
