Pretty much because it would not have reduced prices significantly, if at all, and potentially it could have even raised them! I'm glad its not going ahead. Why did your lot (eastern staters) scrap fuelwatch?
Its not as dumb as the Rudd Govts GroceryWatch though. What a waste of tax payers dollars....

I can't remember the exact reason. You'd have to search for that. But I DO remember that reports were leaked from within the Labor govt showing how it would actually cost motorists. How did they reason it would raise prices?
And in terms of finding the cheapest fuel in your area - the Shell website shows the price of every fuel station they have from 11AM daily. Obviously, you only need look at the suburbs you know you'll be driving through and then you fill up at the cheapest. Very helpful indeed.

You should try using United/Peak 98 exclusively for a few tanks, I'm getting between 40 & 50kl more to each tank with no changes to the car or my driving, seems to have more grunt, usually the cheapest & if you shop at IGA & spend $25 you save a further 4c, I'm now getting 600K's per tank instead of 550-560 over the previous 3yrs on BP 98.........Brilliant stuff & comes from overseas. How did they reason it would raise prices?
I think its a good thing, I can punch in my postcode while at work and decide exactly which petrol stations to stop at or avoid on my drive home.
Even saving 5c/litre would be enough to make the big petrol stations lower their prices I think.

I've got a 'Liberty' independent petrol station (how appropriate) around the corner from me that sells the Peak98 but i've always been a bit wary of it.
Might give it a try, thanks.
