The high-riding Subaru Liberty X sedan has been launched in Australia, providing buyers with a mid-sized sedan with SUV-like ground clearance.

The Subaru Liberty X, confirmed back in April, is only available as a sedan, with the $44,490 123kW/229Nm Subaru Liberty 2.5X paired exclusively with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and the $55,990 191kW/350Nm Liberty 3.6X only fitted with a five-speed automatic transmission.

The 2013 Subaru Liberty X sees a newly designed grille and front bumper, new side skirts, a tweaked rear bumper and new silver 18-inch alloy wheels (gunmetal on 3.6X) along with the extra 50mm of ground clearance, now totalling 200mm – only 13mm off the Subaru Outback.

Both models feature Subaru’s ‘EyeSight’ driver assist system along with a reversing camera, leather trim with heated front seats, satellite navigation, auto lights and wipers, and Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

The Liberty 3.6X also gains chrome door handles and a chrome boot garnish, unique door and dashboard trim details for the interior and SI-Drive – making switching between three different driving modes possible.

Explaining the addition of a raised sedan from a brand synonymous with higher-riding SUV platforms, Subaru Australia managing director Nick Senior said, “The ease of entry and exit of our SUVs has always been a key selling point and we have now been able to incorporate this into a sedan, for those who prefer that body style.”

The rest of the updated 2013 Subaru Liberty line-up will be revealed later this year.

Liberty X............why?

Given the number of senoir citizens I see driving Liberty, maybe so the elderly can enter/exit with less effort?

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Hi,

For people that want a liberty but want an outback but want a sedan but want a different ride height but need chrome trim but don't have eyes.

Derrrr.

Seriously though, I reckon they've done a deal with AEGIS or similar... c'mon. We have an aging population, as painful as it is... Subaru is now marketing to... DUN DUN DUN... OOOLLLDDDD PEEOOPPPLLEEE!

Cheers,
Nik

Looks like something you'd find in a nursing home carpark.

Looks, uuummmm, Aids.
Functionally as useful as a one legged man in an arse kicking contest.
Wheels have been borrowed from Territory Titanium.

My money is firmly placed on it being discontinued within 2 years.

I would have thought that with a lack of teeth, the pronunciation of the 'p' would have been more difficult.

Hence the omission.

Why has Subaru turned into a gimmick brand.

Just go back to making good cars that handle well, and don't hurt your eyes ffs.

Sig worthy.

Maybe excess outback stock has resulted in the beefed up impreza and lib sedan? Subaru certainly has taken a different path and I can tell you that when my Lib eventually goes into retirement, it's not being replaced with another, unless the CVT diesel works well and the Outback stops looking like life size origami.

Oh, wait... I think that confirms that my next car won't be a Subaru. Right?

On a side note, I was behind a brand new impreza the other evening. It was downright ugly.

And remarkably Korean looking. Kind of like a 2001 Hyundai Accent? Amirite!

Sig worthy.

Im hearing you Chris.

Given how dissapointed I was with the GenIV (I will look at a few more hoping they will be a better example) I think I will consider a Mazda 6.

LOL!

Really, Nick, really?

They must have accidentally ordered jacked up suspension by mistake. I don't see there being a market for this kind of Liberty. Kinda like the Liberty Exiga.
