Just don't go through any deep puddles ;)

Wow memories of what my old engine used to look like lol

Wait... Used to? Isn't yours just a stock RX?

They were alloy intercooler bends painted black morgz ;)

Well there you go!

..........I've seen several threads on here where people who have done a simple CAI; removing the resonators, and not necesarily directing the pipe into the guard, claiming a positive effect upon fuel economy.. I'd say that's reason enough to do it and then to test out any change :)

I did this mod many years ago when I had the gen3. I thought at the time that changing the resonator out for direct piping provided marginal economy gains.
Then I changed back to the OEM resonator. No difference at all in economy. I was living in placebo effect land.

Therefore: Direct air feed mod on an NA is a fun mod that creates a small amount of induction noise, but provides no gains in fuel economy or performance.
Why? The OEM feed is not restrictive and already supplies as much air as the engine is able to suck in.

Im going to go against the trend here and say that a CAI on an NA does add a few horsepower! :) There are many articles with before and after dyno tests that suggest that they can add small power. Its basic logic, the stock system in most cars sucks in hot air from engine bay, if you can replace the hot air with cooler, denser, external air, then its going to make a difference.

Make sure you do an ECU reset after the install!

you wouldn't notice 4hp (thats what, maybe 3 kw's) .... when i had mine the only thing i noticed was a slight increase in throttle response.

A gain is a gain, whether its noticeable or not! I had one on my Honda prelude back in the day, and it improved throttle response.

I put genuine STI foot pedals on my liberty back in the day. That improved my throttle response.

One guy got an extra 50-100kms on average...

Perhaps an ECU reset was needed in your case?
idk..just speculation

1. An extra 3kw? No way.
2. An extra 50 to 100 k's? No way?
3. Hot air from the engine bay? The only hot air is from those that make claims such as those above.

I'm not sure how better to explain this....

Adding a direct feed to an NA EJ25 is not a "cold air intake mod" it already has this mod from factory with the addition of a resonator to cut down induction noise.

It will simply not give you any performance or economy gains.

Do it for fun and noise, absolutely, not for chasing power or economy.

^^ That.

It's a fun cheap mod. Go for it! I did and so have many others. It will not harm you or your car but as many have said, don't expect any power gains.

You may get slightly better throttle response and find that it revs easier in the lower rev range but that is simply because you've taken out an air flow restriction. Even that is absolutely minimal and after a day of driving, you'll forget about it!
