Subaru’s BRZ sports coupe has received the 2012-2013 Japan Car of the Year “Special Award”, along with the Toyota 86.
Both cars are built at Subaru’s main Gunma factory, near Tokyo.
BRZ was developed under the concept of “pure handling delight.”
The sports coupe offers driving fun and excellent handling, enabled by the ultra-low centre-of-gravity, with the Subaru horizontally opposed Boxer engine mounted as low as possible.
BRZ was selected from among all passenger cars newly released in Japan during the period from November 1, 2011 through October 31, 2012.
The Japanese COTY panel of jurors is composed mainly of automotive experts and journalists.
Separately from the Car of the Year Japan award, the “Special Award” recognizes the car that has made an exceptional impact.
