Hi all,

I'm in negotiations on a MY07 3.0R Spec B manual.
The owner tells me that 4th gear synchro is worn out and it is booked in for replacement next week.

This seems odd as my research tells me that these boxes are quite robust so is this a known issue?

Also, the workshop that is doing the work (and has serviced the car since the owner purchased it) is Techworkz in Canberra.

http://www.techworkz.com.au/index.php

Has anyone on here heard of them?

Cheers,

Jase.

Canberra peeps love Techworkz (Mick) for some reason.
I think he's abit of a "my opinion is gospel" bloke - I used to work at Subaru where he got some of his parts and every time he'd come in, the mechanics would have abit of a chuckle about him and I end up butting heads with him over some insignificant shit he'd picked up on.

A guy here at work took his WRX to him to get a mis-fire sorted. Took his $700 for an O2 sensor and air flow meter saying it was fixed.
15mins after picking it up it's mis-firing again, so he rings him to say what's up, Mick ends up verbally raping him, calling him a liar etc. A couple of hours later, Mick rings him back saying sorry etc etc and he'll fix it. He didn't go back.

How much is it with the "fixed" synchro as opposed to the worn synchro?

techworkz is awesome

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

Cheers Luke,

As he still owns the car and had it booked in prior to it being advertised, I would assume the same price.
I would be happy to do it myself, but I have no idea what i would find once the box is in bits and I have zero free time so this seems the best option. As I am an anal fcuker, I would probably rebuild the damn thing at great expense.

I've never had any issues with Techworkz, although I've only been there a few times. Mick and Josh always seem happy to have a chat or open the workshop on a Sunday if someone needs something done. I've never heard a bad word about them bar what bobbyjimmy said above. More recommendations:

I have personally known mick for years. Great bloke. Knows his Subaru's quite well. More than capable for the job and has a great customer following. I Look after his car at Rallys when im not With the Repco rally team in the ARC.

If you were to change workshops, i would reccomend my Old work where i did my whole apprenticeship. Total Traction Services in Belconnen (im sure luke will agree with me). The quality of workmanship is exceptional and has a "do it once, do it right" attitude.

We all know our Subarus, with the owners Thomas and Michael working on Multiple rally teams over the years, in Australia and overseas, you know the job will be done right!

4th gear is known for premature wear on the Syncro though. So dont be Alarmed!! Its the only gear in the lower end that didnt get Uprated synchro's :(

1st,3rd and reverse have double Synchronisers and 2nd has Triple.

Thanks Lance(?).

I assume then that Mick is familiar with this job.
