Subaru will bring its first ever diesel automatic model to Australia in March, in the form of the Outback 2.0D auto.

Pricing and specification changes for the rest of the MY13 Outback range were announced last week, however the diesel auto is a last-minute addition.

Pricing has yet to be announced, but expect a premium of around $2000 to be added to the pricetags of the Outback 2.0D manual ($39,990) and the Outback 2.0D Premium manual ($42,990).

Equipment levels will mirror those of the already-announced diesel manual variants, with the base 2.0D packing sat-nav as standard and the 2.0D Premium adding leather upholstery, an electric sunroof, power adjustable seats and Subaru's EyeSight collision detection system.

“Diesel manual Outback now represents around 20 per cent of the model’s sales, so we’re anticipating significant demand for the auto," said Subaru Australia Managing Director, Nick Senior.

“Our best advice is for customers to see their dealer as soon as possible, because if our experience with the manual is anything to go by, we’ll end up with a very strong order bank for this car."

About time Subaru... Long overdue.

With the gen5 looks slowly growing on me (especially in the Outback format), this might just be added to the list of vehciels for when I decide to replace the gen4. It'll be particularly interesting to see how the CVT performs with the diesel.

Yup its long overdue. Now hopefully they add a manual option to the new Forester XT which is now CVT only...

Chris, are you sure this is with the CVT? Article isn't that specific.

Ah ok cool.

I wonder how it'll be with the CVT. In theory it should be good, right? The CVT holds revs down low and that's where all the power is in a diesel....

In theory, yes.
Given they've waited to launch with the revised transmission indicates they've been tuning specifically for the diesel.

Towing capacity?

LOL, why do you care. :-)
As Tony Montana would say:
In this country, you gotta make the money first.
Then when you get the money, you get the power.
Then when you get the power, then you get the women.

for the lawls.

but seriously... it would be interesting. naturally with a diesel, it'll attract the towing fraternity towards the brand (which would be a wonderful thing).
