My First post and sadly its not an introduction.
I just bought a MY03 B4 Liberty and its already giving me security problems.
Firstly the Engine some times stops even while driving. and then it takes for ever to get it going agen.
After it shuts the engine down, the 7,4,1 buttons on the keypad light up in that sequence. After some random playing around with the key unlocking and locking the car it will go but then shut down agen.
The original owner told me he ones had the battery die and had to tow it home. (which freaks me out that he toed it)
So im asking, Is removing the system all together an easy task for an average auto lec? or will this have to be done by a Subaru specialist.
I will make a Introduction post soon with pics but im in desperate need to get this problem solved or i will be stranded on the high way.

The BRANT alarm in your car is known to play up, All the time.
Look up brant alarm problems on google and it will open up a world of options for you.
My old wrx had a brant, I bought a autowatch alarm and installed it using the brant wiring harness. Worked a treat and never had an issue after that.

Check the amp plugs under the driver seat & carpet. Also fuses. If you are going to pull apart the console get a workshop manual pdf on line. There are a few hidden screws.
The manual is a must with these cars. Save your life they will

You need to replace it with something. But I can't see how an insurance company would have grounds to not insure you?

What a pain in the arse. Brant's are so annoying. Are you sure you don't have a flat battery?

So far for what i know is, The system works fine when ever its had a decent amount of rest. For example the previous owner did not driven it for a while, and i drove home from Sydney with no problems. After i got home i got back in and went to Mc Donalds, after 4 minutes wait in the drive through it shut down and would not give me the power light and windows would not operate. it eventually started after a good 15 minute wait.
This morning i started it up a few times and drove it around the block no worries. started it up agen and went down to the shops no worries. That was the last time it started.
Iv tested the car battery. 12V and 14V when running so battery is fine and is getting the charge it needs
My conclusion is the more i use the system the more it will do this to me.
Is there some sort of memory battery that needs to be replaced?

Is it true if i rip it out no one will insure me?
Most insurance companies require you to have an immobiliser to insure u not an alarm
I would check with your insurance company and argue that without the Brant, the vehicle still has the the factory immobiliser. (the micro chipped key)
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Is there a flashing key symbol on the dash when the key has been removed for a short while?
