Resetting your ecu makes it forget all it's learned values and forces it to recalibrate. It may also forget any shifting patterns (?if the auto in your car adapts to your driving style). On my car I can disconnect the battery for a while, force a reset through the OBD2 port, or plug some connectors under the dash around lol
Not too sure if it's the same for the gen4s

Best option is to wait till you get an exhaust or something and get a tune done.
Or if you replace a sensor yourself, then do an ECU reset.
