But still some progress has happened.
I picked up an under dash to engine bay wiring loom for a kingswood that is spliced with a vn-vs v8 loom. The bloke was a crazy kingswood enthusist currently has a HX kingswood with an ls1 in it. His also a techo in the airforce so the wiring loom is top notch.
I then built a trolley for the cab to roll around on. Wanted the trolley to be able to wheel into the trailer and then also be picked up with a forklift
Then i triangulated and braced the fork out of it
Engine and gearbox eventually come out the commodore this weekend
Gearbox appears to be a borg warmer ford T5. From an ea-eb falcon. Guess i'll have to see if its worth keeping that or the celica 5spd. I already have.
I think thats about it

T5.
Celica will be gone in 60 seconds.

Every person I knew (about 5) with a Celica behind a 308, only the puss bucket carby at that, blew their gearboxes. Even the Supra boxes went pop.
A 253 makes less torque than the 308 and its peak torque is higher in the rev range so its softer on the gearboxes. We used to fit Holden V8's to HiLux's (same guts as a Celica) and we would only fit the 253's.
Not sure about the strength between 6 and 8 cyl T5 but I suspect, as with Holden boxes, it's just a ratio thing and possibly input shaft.
Didn't Holden use the T5 in V8 Commodores up to VS series II??

T5's are weak when you give them a hard time.

fork almost a year and i've done nothing but move the cab into storage and the chassis is at my place now.
Picked this up today
I wanted it for the roof section, it was only $100 and has a rear window
hopefully i can clear some space in the carport, roll the chassis in this weekend and start on that.

Chiming in pretty late here but if this conversation is still going, Holden blocks come in Holden & Chev pattern (Trimatic/Turbo). Your Injected 304 motor will definitely be Chev pattern but I'm inclined to think your red 253 would certainly be Holden - which would mean your aftermarket Toyota bellhousing would not bolt up.
I've spent plenty of time around old Holdens and I'd suggest there's nothing wrong with the T5 or the W5x Toyota gearboxes. Worth finding out if it's an alloy cased W58, or could be anything down to a W54 which is significantly different & less tough. Are you going to have an aggressive LSD, tall gears, fat tyres and a need to fry tyres all the time?

its still going, just nothing happened. things just keep popping up
the injected engine i have is a red 308 according to the engine number. i sold the t5 gearbox i had anyway.
Couldn't care less for skids, just want a decent cruiser

Buy VN-VP Turbo 700 (cable-operated)
Fill guts with Corvette bits (common mod)
Skid or cruise it 'til the belts wear through...
PS: I'm still keen to catch up and talk Silly Old Car Projects. Wanna grab Grant and a few of the SubyClub OGs and come 'round to Chez Marv for a BBQ/beer sesh?
