Hey guys, This NY we're driving over to Melbourne to visit friends in Sanctury Lakes (sp?) and Dad wants to know what should be done to prepare the car for the drive. Apart from tyre presures and making sure the oil isnt black we dunno. Help is appreciated :) Cheers guys, Ash

Just give it a service before hand. Just filter and oil. Its a good peace of mind thing for minmal expense. Just check other fluids and top up if necessary and away you go. Its only 8 hours so not too bad. Drop me a message with some details. Sanctury Lakes is only 10 mins away. ;)

Check your spare. Make sure it isn't flat. Check your tyres. Make sure they're ok. Make sure there's no foreign objects in the tread (like screws...I found one in my tyre on Saturday...) make sure you have decent tread. Check you have your lock nut key with you in the car. Check your basic tools. Do you have enough tools to carry out a tyre change (or other basic things around the engine?) Check fluids Check battery and alternator charge using a multimeter Bring spare fluids (including water... bring 2-5L water!) Bring a spare pulley belt or two if you have them Bring decent cd's Bring your mobile phone charger Bring a GPS if you have one

Bring your spare key as its easy to lock the key in the car. And give it to someone accompanying you on the trip and tell them to keep it on their person at all times so the spare doesn't get locked in as well. Other than the things listed - you should be fine! Enjoy the drive....

Cable ties and gaffa tape are musts when doing long drives in my opinion. Those two things are worth their weight in gold.

Especially when your car won't go around corners :D

Good advice. Take some with you!

I once used gaffa tape and cable ties to "fix" a burst radiator hose (enough to limp me home).
