Thousands of seats and floors on CityRail trains have not been properly cleaned in more than a decade, an audit of RailCorp cleaning practices has found.
Fabric seats on Millennium, Oscar and some Tangara trains have only ever received a quick vacuum in a decade of service - meaning spills and grime have been left to soak deep into the fabric and cushioning.
Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian has now ordered a $3.5 million deep-cleaning blitz of the interior of Sydney's trains to bring them up to standard.
More than 1300 carriages will be spruced up by the end of June, Ms Berejiklian said.
"It is appalling such a low standard of cleaning has been acceptable in our train carriages for more than 10 years," Ms Berejiklian said.
"It's no wonder there are some people who simply won't catch trains or sit on seats because they are so filthy.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Hi,
Unsourced slander, misinformation, media campaign against her...
She is running in the Federal election that's coming up - got back in with One Nation.

"Illegal immigrants swamping our shores" hahaha. Good one Pauline.
Of all the policies thus far, hers is probably one of the better.
And they are swamping our shores. And we're spending our hard earned tax dollars on such scumbags who can't come in properly through the front door.

I honestly have no idea what her policy is in regards to them.
But I do agree that way too much money is being spent on the illegals.

Has been for over a decade. Just slowly being gobbled up by the majors.

Hi,
So. They are raising the tax on cigarettes, in a move to stop people from smoking, and they are being applauded for this amazing - health conscious move. What a great thing to stop people smoking, and we get $5.2B so we can have some nice things! What a flawless plan.
Riddle me this. If it works, and people stop smoking, how are they going to get their $5.2 billion? Why is nobody asking that question? It makes it pretty damn obvious, that they know the elasticity of tobacco and are more than willing to suckle from the tit.
Same goes with FBT reform, in a way. So, if people just stop leasing - where is this extra money coming from?
This is about as well thought out as the MRRT.
Cheers,
Nik
