So, just seen that a Honda forum has (some time ago it seems) banned threads in regards to tyre stretch! haha great work I say

"ALL threads referring to 'tire stretching' will be locked in Wheel and Tire.

The process is unsafe and it does not benefit anything to the performance of the vehicle.
Incidentally, the reason it's unsafe is that, when tires are mounted on rims that are wider (or narrower) than the rim widths approved for the model and size tire, heat and stress can build up in the sidewall, leading to tire failure (either popping the bead or an actual blowout). The engineers and customer service staff of the tire manufacturers hear about this constantly, because users who "stretched" their tires then file claims under warranty. These claims are then denied by the tire manufacturers as a matter of user error (improper usage), and the customers get ticked off and then start fighting with the tire store that mounted them (even though any conscientious tire store will refuse to mount the tires on rims that are too wide). Talk to the folks from the tire manufacturers and watch them roll their eyes at the mere mention of "tire stretching", because they've already dealt with so many cases where the tires failed as a result.

This is NOT a matter of opinion; it's a matter of fact. Tires can, and do, commonly fail as a result of mounting on wheels that are too wide. DON'T DO IT."

Not true, the idea of tyre stretching was directly related to increased performance on the race track, it's simply the fact that tyre build quality has come leaps and bounds since the 50's that there is no longer a need/point to it.

Ha ha, clean car FTW.

And I'm sorta still not in the mood, but I'm home and have indoor soccer tonight so I guess I can get whatever is in my system out soon.

ALSO! I think we have just been given a trailer. Well not completely ours, but my dad and his cousin are willing to go halves on rego and insurance and we can both use it whenever we want. Only catch is that we've gotta keep it at home. Looks a bit weird having it on the street though which is mum's argument against us keeping it. It could definitely come in handy though! And I wouldn't particularly wanna keep it at a park or something as bolt cutters are easy to obtain... I can always get those tow bar protector things or even the wheel braces...

What do you guys reckon? Anyone own a trailer and don't particularly store it in their garage, front yard or front of their house?

I live about 15 minutes away from the city. I don't have a paddock, and my backyard is inaccessible from the front. Garage is a no go as there are four cars at the moment (mums, dads, mine and my brothers).

Hence the over thinking. It's necessary. :)

*walks slowly into Nik's rape dungeon*

You do
Garrrry.

Do you need a trailer more than the inconvenience of having it around?

You can hire them for less than $100 a day. You don't have to rego, maintain it, you don't have to store it. Just hook up and go!

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

It's not only me that would want to use it, and it's not extremely necessary. But rego for 'em is fork all anyway. I'll just let my parents make the decision. If they keep it then sweet. If not, ah well. My foreman in the council use Able Hire for their excavator in Sutherland anyway. They could always hook me up. ;)

Different tyre construction COMPLETELY Nikko, so it is very true. Radial Ply  VS Cross Ply (the tyres that were originally stretched) tyres, current sidewalls are not designed for the change in where the load is placed on the side walls, tis why they can fail.

Yeah, 'not true' was the wrong preface to that statement, but we are clearly agreeing with each other.
