Do any other subaru model drive shafts fit on the front of a 3Gen liberty B4?
Been told that after market drive shafts can cause rough idle with autos while in gear.
So was hoping to swap em out from a late model from the wreckers and see if its true.
Being that factory shafts are about 1200 bucks, though this will be the cheapest way to get an oem shaft that's fairly new.

Shafts causing rough idle in gear..

Mate, you are being fed a load of shit..

unless the car has been sitting on beach for a year your shafts are fine.

even with dead boots my gen1 was fine for 3 years.

look elsewhere for the problem..

also even if you wanted new shafts... good quality replacements can be had for $140 new

In my Gen 3 Outback/B4 the front drive shafts are straight out of a Gen 2 Liberty... Gen 2 and Gen 3 are therefore interchangeable.

They are also aftermarket and I've had absolutely no issues whatsoever with them... Nothing wrong with getting some good aftermarket ones.

Cheers

Josh

Not always.. depending on the revision i have seen a difference in where the ABS rings are...

that is the only compatibility issues between models.
Some have the ABS pickups on the Shaft. other on a ring attached to the Hub..

I cant recall which has which but 90% sure from 96 onwards all ABS went to Hub Ring Pickup

Yeh I know it sounds like a load of crap, I also think this is too. But have read a lot of stories regarding this issue. There's even a few posts on here suggesting the same thing but I find it very hard to believe.
Was hopping to so this and end this rumor
The only convincing stories iv herd is where they have taken the car in to get there shafts replaced and get a rough idle after they where installed.

rough idle after an install could be due to the box being miss aligned and maybe affecting the preload on the front diff..
but thats about all i can thing would affect it. bad Shafts just make no sense at all

Yes, you are probably right with the revisions. My shafts are from a 98 model so the latest revision which has the abs on the hub ring. Makes sense. The earlier gen 2 may not have the abs on the hub ring as you say.
