Hey guys I've been having this problem for a while now where when I turn the air conditioning on my car seems to feel like it's lost allot of power.

An easier explanation for it would be that it feels like something is grabbing constantly when the compressor engages and when it disengages I get a burst of power until it engages again.

I didn't worry about it before as I was too busy and it was too cold to use the ac but lately it's been hot so it's starting to get frustrating especially when trying to over take people.

I did manage to find a thread on another forum where a guy ran into the same problem but he never found a solution for it.

I have checked the belts already and everything is fine so I know the belts aren't slipping so if anyone has any ideas of what could be causing this they would be greatly appreciated.

Car is a 05 Impreza GX. Thanks in advance.

Thats because the AC compressor is run off the engine. So when the compressor is running you lose some power

I know that. But it's too noticeable with my car.
When I put my foot down from 50kmh it will struggle immensely to get to 80.

My old 2000 Mazda 323 which was a1.6l had ac and it was noticeable but not enough for the car to have not even half of its original power.

I know it's a bit hard for me to explain but it's way to noticeable, I've driven lots of cars but have never encountered a car that loses most of its power due to the ac.

Could be your compressor bearings on the way out

The air conditioning in my liberty noticeably drags down the power in my car. I've always assumed its a subaru thing.

the AC in my car takes a heap of power to. Being an NA losing any power is no good as we have none anyway. Would love to know if this is fixable. I always just thought that it was the AC drawing power and it wasnt fixable. Interested to see where this goes.

Getting an AC specialist to inspect your system will let you know if there is a problem or not. The pressures maybe to high placing increased drag on the ac pump.

Well there is a AC specialist a block away from my house but at the moment I don't have the time to have them check it out.

I might go have a talk to them about it and see what they think might be the problem.
