read this thread before you even consider it.

If you still crazy enough to consider it talk to vicelore first hand. no offence to vicelore he has one sweet ride but for what he could bought for that money is crazy.
Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

Buy Jakes, $16000 and its already built ready to go.
Was going to say, buy Jakes car. It's already done and still has potential. I don't think its fully tuned yet either from what I've read.

So 300kwatw?
Big problem with a ej257 block is the bores are very thin causing alot of bore flex. This in turn causes head gasket failure, uneven bore wear and even total failure of the bore. The use of e85 can off set this a fair bit but for that power range your looking at dart inserts and a closed deck (AKA $$$$$).
Have you thought about a ej22 block? Put a gt35r twist mount on a forged ej22 with sti heads/cams with e85 and your safe to boost it to 20psi+ and not stress. If you realy want you can fit a ej257 crank to the ej22 block!
Ej257 are nice motors but you need coin the keep them safe over 250kw.

As Cameron said... Look at what vice went through. . But also if you are going to do work yourself. Things can be cheaper..
Vice was in a spot of not knowing a heap about subies and engine building. A very expensive lesson learnt though..
Buying power vs building power.
Remember the 3 key factors. Cheap Reliable. Fast. You can choose 2 and only 2.

convert the interior to series 2 ie black and put an rx/gtb kit on it. fix the issues and when/if you blow it up chase some power with a build ej22.
i think this is an absolute bargin

I can get a closed deck shortblock ej257 with the following features:
Reconditioned Block Halves
Closed Deck Process to Block Halves
New 09+ EJ257 Nitrated Crankshaft
New CP Forged Pistons
New CP Rings
New Manley H-Beam Forged Rods
New ACL Race Bearings
For $5500 and im sure that'd be able to hold some decent power?

Agreed, the only thing i would add to that is some sleeves.
If your close decking, and chasing big power do it now, its not expensive, and gives headroom.

The v4 STI heads are fine.
PS1000 with an ethanol sensor. Some ID2000 top feeds and a twin scroll housing on a GT35R would put the icing on the cake.
